Tatiana Maslany, best known for her role in the 2022 Disney+ miniseries She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, is now demanding that Hollywood celebrities treat their fame as a vehicle for progressive activism.
Her comments surfaced during a recent appearance on the far-left podcast Zeteo, co-founded by former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan, as reported by Gateway Pundit. The actress, whose Marvel series lasted just one season, used the platform to chastise entertainers who decline to inject politics into their public personas, insisting that neutrality is not an option in todays culture.
Maslany told Hasan she finds it odd that she not only has a voice but that so many people care what she says, framing that attention as a moral obligation to speak out on political issues. Im part of a system. I have to speak on it, Maslany said, presenting activism not as a choice but as a professional duty for artists.
She elaborated on that point by redefining the role of performers in explicitly ideological terms. To me, if artists are like mirrors to the world, to society, we have to name things, whether its emotionally mirroring to people the human experience, or its speaking out, or its naming something. Its such an important, intrinsic part of our job.
Hasan, wearing a Save Gaza T-shirt, nodded along as he pushed Maslany to comment on actors who refuse to follow this script, singling out veteran television star Tom Selleck. The host also invoked NBA legend Michael Jordans famous line about how Republicans buy sneakers, a remark long cited by the Left as an example of staying out of politics.
Maslany dismissed that stance outright, insisting that entertainment is inherently ideological and therefore must be used to advance a political agenda. All of it is political. Like, everything is political. All entertainment is political because it has a viewpoint and it has a perspective, it has a visual representation of the world we live in, or the kinds of things that are funny or acceptable, she said.
For conservatives who still see culture as a place for shared stories rather than partisan lectures, Maslanys comments underscore how aggressively the Left seeks to politicize every corner of American life. It is no surprise that voices on the right, including conservative talk host Jesse Kelly, are offering their own explanations for why so many in Hollywood now view silence not as professionalism, but as a political crime.
