A disturbing new survey suggests that a significant share of Democratic voters would welcome violent or extralegal efforts to remove President Donald Trump from the political stage.
According to The Post Millennial, the poll was conducted jointly by Liberal Currents and the Center for Strategic Politics, questioning 683 Democratic voters between September 3 and September 10, with a margin of error of +/- 3.75 percentage points. The respondents were asked how they would feel if they woke up tomorrow morning to see a series of five hypothetical news headlines involving Trumps removal from office or death.
One of the scenarios presented was the explicit assassination of the 45th president: President Donald Trump was assassinated while speaking at a rally. In response, 23 percent of Democrats said they would feel very positive and another 9 percent said somewhat positive, meaning 32 percentnearly one in threeexpressed a favorable reaction to the prospect of Trump being murdered.
While 43 percent said they would feel very or somewhat negative about such an assassination, 25 percent claimed they would feel neither positive nor negative, a striking level of moral detachment regarding political violence. The same respondents were also asked about a hypothetical military coup that removed Trump from office, a scenario that directly contradicts constitutional norms and the peaceful transfer of power.
On that question, 43 percent said they would feel very positive and 16 percent said they would be somewhat positive, for a combined 59 percentan outright majority of Democrats indicating they would react positively to a military overthrow of an elected president. Other hypothetical scenarios also drew strong support, including impeachment and conviction by Congress, which 87 percent viewed positively, and removal via the 25th Amendment, which 84 percent said would make them feel very or somewhat positive.
Even Trumps natural death was met with approval by a majority of respondents, with Death from natural causes overnight: 55 percent combined positive. These findings emerge in the wake of multiple real-world attempts on Trumps life, most notably in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on the president and shot at the president, but hit only his ear.
Recent reports have warned of a growing assassination culture in the United States, as politically motivated attacks become more frequent and more brazen. This trend has been underscored by what has been described as the most public assassination possibly since JFK, with Charlie Kirk getting shot to death at Utah Valley University, raising grave questions about the lefts escalating rhetoric and its corrosive effect on Americas commitment to lawful, peaceful political change.
