The Trump administration is preparing to install a series of warning signs for visitors at the Smithsonian Institution, specifically targeting the National Museum of American History, over what it describes as the museums growing ideological bias.
According to Just The News, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum outlined the plan in a Sept. 3 letter to U.S. Senators Lisa Murkowski and Jeff Merkley, senior members of the Senate Appropriations Committee. Burgum wrote that the administration is demanding a "commitment to transparency" and "academic honesty" from the federally supported institution.
As part of that push, the administration intends to notify visitors that "the leadership of the Smithsonian and NMAH have altered the museum's role from accurately and coherently telling America's story to using the museum as a tool to advance personal, radical ideologies," NPR reported. Burgum said the dozen signs, described as temporary, will be placed on National Park Service land under the authority of President Donald Trumps July executive order, "Restoring Trust in the Smithsonian Institution."
The letter cites specific examples that Burgum argues reflect a politicized agenda within the museums leadership. It singles out Anthea Hartig, director of the National Museum of American History, who "stated that history is 'a prime tool of social justice'"a formulation conservatives see as subordinating objective history to progressive activism.
Burgum further asserted that the museum seeks "to legitimize illegal immigration and open borders," a stance sharply at odds with the rule-of-law approach favored by many Americans. He also criticized exhibits that, in his words, "present ideological viewpoints inconsistent with biology, including ideologies that sex is not binary," underscoring a broader clash between traditional views of science and the lefts identity-driven narratives.
