Peter Navarro is accusing Fox News of abandoning its conservative base and actively working against President Donald Trumps Make America Great Again agenda, casting the network as an institution now hostile to the movement it once helped elevate.
According to WND, Navarro, who served as White House senior counselor for trade and manufacturing under Trump, used a Tuesday night appearance with Greg Kelly on Newsmax to deliver a blistering critique of Foxs leadership and editorial direction. The bigger story here, Greg, is forget about anybody thinking that Fox is a conservative network thats friendly to MAGA, thats friendly to Trump, Navarro declared, arguing that the networks corporate brass has systematically sidelined voices aligned with Trumps populist message. His remarks come amid ongoing questions about the abrupt disappearance of several high-profile, pro-Trump personalities from Foxs airwaves.
Navarro placed particular blame on Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott, whom he portrayed as the central figure enforcing an internal crackdown on Trump-aligned content. Suzanne Scott is the enforcer. Theyll feed you some red meat over there. You know, the easy stuff, you know, the trans stuff, stuff like that. But when it comes down to MAGA things, Suzanne Scott gets rid of everybody over there who wants to talk about MAGA issues, he said, suggesting the network is willing to dabble in cultural skirmishes while steering clear of substantive challenges to the political establishment. In Navarros telling, this is not a mere programming shift but a deliberate effort to marginalize the America First agenda.
He pointed to the removal of several prominent hosts as evidence that Fox is trying to intimidate its own talent into silence on Trump-related issues. You fire people like Tucker Carlson, Lou Dobbs, now Maria Bartiromo. That throws fear into all these other anchors and keep them in line. Its like, dont talk about kind of Trump stuff, Navarro argued, framing the personnel decisions as a warning shot to anyone tempted to give airtime to election integrity concerns or populist economic policies. The message from management, he insisted, is unmistakable and chilling for conservative viewers who once trusted the network as a counterweight to the liberal media.
Navarro further alleged that Fox producers are being explicitly instructed to avoid content favorable to Trump or the MAGA movement. What the producers are told by Suzanne Scott, whos the CEO at Fox, is, when you craft your segments you dont do these MAGA issues. You dont do pro-Trump stuff, he said, describing what he views as a top-down censorship regime. For conservatives who believe corporate media already leans heavily left, Navarros claims reinforce the perception that even nominally right-leaning outlets are drifting toward the political centeror worse, aligning with the Republican establishment often derided as RINO.
The controversy surrounding Maria Bartiromos apparent ouster has become a flashpoint in this broader dispute over Foxs direction. As WND noted, Dylan Byers at Puck News reported that Bartiromos removal was tied to her planned coverage of Trumps July 16 address on election integrity and his ongoing doubts about the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential race. As it turned out, Bartiromo had been planning to cover Trumps speech on her show, according to sources familiar with her plans, Byers wrote, adding that She had also planned to book Peter Navarro, a senior counselor to Trump who has aggressively pushed the voter fraud narrative, to talk about the presidents remarks and the administrations broader concerns over election integrity.
Byers further recounted Navarros description of how Fox management allegedly moved to block that coverage. In an interview on Friday, Navarro told me that when Bartiromo received [Fox Business Senior Vice President of Programming Ralph] Giordanos guidance, she took a screenshot and forwarded it to him to tell him that management was not letting her cover the speechor, in his words, censoring it. Navarro subsequently passed that information up the chain, he said, informing senior administration officials of the guidance. One high-ranking White House official, whom Navarro declined to identify, reached out to Fox News leadership to express their frustration with the decision. According to Byers, Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott and president Jay Wallace were angered by Bartiromos decision to share internal guidance with the administration. Nevertheless, Bartiromo continued to host her various shows for several weeks, up until her Fox Business broadcast on August 7, and her Fox News broadcast on August 9. Shortly thereafter, according to sources with knowledge of the timeline, Bartiromo was informed that the company would end her shows and she would not return to air, even for a signoff. Officially, Bartiromo remains under contract and is entitled to payment until 2028.
Navarro later revealed what he said was the precise wording of the internal directive that sparked the clash. In a Washington Times account, he disclosed that the text message to Bartiromo read: Hi We dont want to promote it or push to the speech at all. We dont want to do 2020 election segments at all Thurs or Friday. For Navarro and many Trump supporters, such language confirms their suspicion that corporate media, including Fox, is determined to shut down any serious discussion of alleged irregularities in the 2020 vote.
On Newsmax, Navarro expressed outrage that a sitting presidents prime-time remarks on election security would be effectively blacked out by a network that built its brand on serving conservative viewers. This is like unbelievable, Navarro told Kelly. You got a primetime address by the president of the United States. Those are very rare. And its about the Chinese Communist Party basically hacking into more than 200 million voter files and doing other things to interfere in our election. And Suzanne Scott over at the mothership at Fox didnt want to have anything to do with that. To many on the right, such editorial choices look less like neutral news judgment and more like ideological gatekeeping.
Pressed on which senior officials he had informed about Bartiromos situation, Navarro declined to name names, citing his own legal ordeal. Im not going to get into the details. Remember, I went to prison, Greg, for not violating executive privilege. But suffice it to say that Suzanne Scott got a call and basically the White House let her know that that kind of thing is totally unacceptable. She didnt accept that at all. She just went out and fired Maria Bartiromo. And that place is out of control, he said, portraying Fox as a network more responsive to internal corporate sensibilities than to a sitting conservative administration.
Bartiromos legal team, however, has pushed back hard against reports that she has been formally dismissed. Her attorney Bryan Freedman issued a statement on Friday insisting: The irresponsible reports that have been published stating that Maria Bartiromo was fired or is no longer an employee of Fox are absolutely and unequivocally false. He added a pointed warning to those spreading contrary claims, saying, Make no mistake, we have the receipts and witnesses and they will come out whether through the courthouse or otherwise. Those reporting her firing or the incredulous facts supporting that fiction have exhibited a complete and utter reckless disregard for the truth.
Navarro, for his part, insists that whatever the contractual technicalities, the message to conservative America is unmistakable. Fox is RINO, he stressed. When your brand is fair and balanced and youre supposed to report prime-time news, the president in the Oval for a national address, you bet your a** its censorship and its retaliation on Maria Bartiromo. Full stop. In his view, Fox has traded its insurgent, right-leaning identity for a safer, establishment-friendly posture that leaves the MAGA base searching for alternative platforms.
Despite the turmoil, Navarro said he has remained in contact with Bartiromo and described her as resilient but frustrated. Shes fine. Shes not happy, he indicated. Shes not being treated fairly and nobody at Fox is sticking up for her. For conservatives who long relied on Fox as a rare megaphone in a media landscape dominated by progressive narratives, the Bartiromo episode and Navarros allegations raise a deeper question: if even Fox is now policing Trump-era populism, where will unapologetic coverage of election integrity, Chinas influence, and America First policies find a home?
