With the midterm elections looming less than two months away, Elon Musks America PAC is pouring money into key Maine contests in a bid to preserve Republican control of Congress.
According to Western Journal, Musks political action committee has committed $170,000 to a barrage of ads, phone calls, mailers, and text messages on behalf of Republican Sen. Susan Collins, who is facing Democrat Troy Jackson. He was initially hailed as a populist hero and was able to survive revelations about a Nazi tattoo on his chest, offensive social media posts, infidelity, and allegations of abuse against former girlfriends.
The breaking point came when he was accused of rape by Maine Democrat Jenny Racicot, a charge that made his candidacy untenable even for a party increasingly tolerant of radical figures. If Democrats manage to reclaim the chamber, they are widely expected to weaponize that power, as theyre likely to initiate impeachment proceedings against Trump and other top cabinet members, like Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.
The high stakes have drawn in other major Republican-aligned groups, underscoring Maines outsized importance in the national fight for power. In addition to Musks contributions, the Senate Leadership Fund a GOP super PAC has given over $42 million to the Maine race, highlighting its importance.
Musks political spending, however, extends far beyond New England, reflecting a broader strategy to shore up conservative candidates in multiple swing states. The Tesla CEO has also set his sights on the Texas Senate race between Democrat James Talarico and Republican state Attorney General Ken Paxton.
Musks super PAC reportedly pledged to spend more than $120 million to elect Republicans this cycle and has already spent $2.6 million on the Texas race, Forbes reported. In Ohio, where Republican Sen. Jon Husted is battling former Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, America PAC has already invested $1.7 million to keep the seat in GOP hands.
The group is also active in Michigan, another state central to the national electoral map and long targeted by Democrats for a leftward shift. Filings also revealed that in the high-profile Michigan Senate race between GOP Rep. Mike Rogers and controversial Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, the PAC has given $1.5 million.
