Former Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin was taken into custody in Paris, Kentucky, by the Bourbon County Sheriff's Office, according to dispatchers with the Paris-Bourbon County 911 center.
The arrest occurred while Bevin was reportedly working as an extra on the set of a Christian film being shot in the towns historic downtown. According to Just The News, local outlets reported that cable network Great American Family is currently filming its latest holiday production, titled "The Greatest Christmas Gift of All," in Paris this week.
The legal trouble stems from Bevins ongoing divorce and child support proceedings in Jefferson Family Court. Louisville Public Media reported that Judge Angela Johnson issued two arrest warrants for Bevin over the summer in connection with that case.
The first warrant was tied to Bevins alleged failure to appear for a scheduled court hearing, a basic obligation many Americans are expected to meet regardless of status or former office. The former governor blamed a "very large boulder" crashing into his vacation home in Bethel, Maine, for causing his absence.
That initial warrant was later rescinded after Bevin paid a fine, but the courts patience appeared to wear thin as the case progressed. Johnson subsequently issued a second warrant after finding him in contempt of court for failing to provide required financial documents, and in June she sentenced Bevin to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine.
