Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) escalated her rhetoric against President Donald Trumps supporters this week, likening the Make America Great Again movement to the pro-slavery Confederacy in remarks that underscore the lefts increasingly hostile posture toward conservative America.
Speaking at Roxbury Community College in Boston while campaigning for Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) in his primary battle against Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA), Pressley framed the 2020 contest as a struggle far larger than the race for the White House, according to Breitbart. It is bigger than Trump, Pressley said. Because whenever we do the work of ousting the occupant of the Oval Office, the Confederacy is still alive and well. Thats all MAGA is.
Pressley went on to portray the country as steeped in racial animus, despite years of progress and broad public rejection of segregationist ideology. White supremacy is still alive and well, she continued. Anti-blackness will still be alive and well.
Markey, a reliable vote for the progressive agenda, is seeking another term in the Senate but faces a Democrat primary challenge from the more centrist-leaning Moulton. Pressley endorsed Markey in March after previously weighing a Senate bid of her own, signaling the left flanks determination to keep the seat in firmly progressive hands.
In announcing her endorsement, Pressley highlighted their shared record on open-borders immigration policies, criminal justice reform, and other far-left priorities that critics say undermine public safety and the rule of law. I am proud to endorse his re-election so we can continue advancing the justice-driven solutions our communities need to not only survive, but thrive, Pressley said, making clear that for many Democrats, branding millions of Trump voters as akin to Confederates is now part of the campaign playbook.
