Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) used a CNN appearance to distance himself sharply from progressive candidate El-Sayed and to demand a clear denunciation of antisemitism from the left.
According to Breitbart, Gottheimer, a Democrat who has often positioned himself as a centrist, drew a firm line when asked about supporting El-Sayed, underscoring growing tensions between traditional pro-Israel Democrats and the partys increasingly radical wing. He warned that El-Sayeds record and rhetoric toward Jewish Americans raise serious concerns that cannot be brushed aside for partisan convenience.
Gottheimer stated, Ill just make it clear, theres no way Im ever coming out for El-Sayed right now. And like, until this is a guy who has made it very clear his views toward and has refused to back off his views toward Jewish Americans. And I hope he comes out and clarifies where he is.
He further pressed El-Sayed to break with hard-left commentator Hasan Piker, whose inflammatory language has long drawn criticism from conservatives and many in the Jewish community. Gottheimer continued, I also hope that he does the right thing and condemns Hasan Piker clearly and the language very clearly. What I dont understand is, and I would hope if this were against anybody else or any other group in our country, and someone came out with this kind of hateful rhetoric, that people would stand up and speak out. What confounds me is why are people so silent when it comes to antisemitism, anti-Jewish language?
For many on the right, Gottheimers remarks highlight a double standard in modern identity politics, where antisemitism from the far left is too often excused or ignored by liberal elites. His comments underscore a broader concern that moral clarity on hatred toward Jewish Americans should transcend party lines, and that silence in the face of such rhetoric is no longer acceptable.
