Ontario Premier Doug Ford unleashed a profanity-laced tirade against President Donald Trump as tensions escalated in the latest round of the U.S.-Canada trade dispute.
According to Mediaite, Fords outburst came during a Monday interview with CTV, after President Trump announced sweeping 50 percent tariffs on Canadian goods and vowed to reset what he has long described as a lopsided trading relationship. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney responded by promising to match the tariffs dollar-for-dollar, signaling that Ottawa intends to mirror Washingtons hard line rather than seek compromise.
Well, he can kiss my a** as far as Im concerned, Ford declared, venting his anger at the prospect of higher duties on key Canadian exports. Were gonna go at him full-steam.
Ford escalated his rhetoric further, calling for an all-out economic counteroffensive against the United States. We need to throw everything and the kitchen sink at him. Hes arrogant, hes cocky, and you know as Ronald Reagan said if you come to a draw with a bully, what stops that bully from coming at you the next day, and the next day? And thats all Donald Trump is is a bully. Hes gonna have a rude awakening.
The premier even floated the idea of cutting off electricity to U.S. manufacturing plants that rely on Canadian power. He might as well call up the Energizer Bunny, because he should be powering his facilities, Ford said, in a remark seemingly aimed more at theatrics than practical policy.
President Trump, for his part, framed the tariff hike as a long-overdue correction to what he views as chronic Canadian exploitation of American workers and producers. Earlier Monday, he accused Canada of ripping off the United States and proclaimed, WE DONT NEED CANADA, THEY NEED US! while outlining his tariff plans.
In a detailed Truth Social post, President Trump argued, Canada has been ripping off the United States of America for years. Their ridiculously high tariffs on our Farmers and farm products has made life impossible for these great American Patriots, and has long created a 60 Billion Dollar Deficit between our two Countries. He continued, Not sustainable, and NOT ANYMORE! On January First, 2027, Tariffs on all Cars, Trucks, both large and small, Automotive Parts, and Steel, will be increased to 50%. Build in the U.S. and there are ZERO TARIFFS. Canada will be treated like a State no longer! On Trade, and in other ways, also, they are among the worst Nations in the World to deal with. They feel entitled, and yet, WE DONT NEED CANADA, THEY NEED US! They do 95% of their business with the U.S., with us, the exact opposite! Thank you for your attention to this matter!
Fords coarse language underscores how deeply dependent Canada is on access to the American market, even as its leaders lash out at Washingtons tougher stance. While Canadian officials threaten retaliation and dramatic measures, President Trumps message is clear: if Canada wants continued prosperity, it will have to accept a trade relationship that no longer treats American taxpayers and workers as a limitless subsidy for its northern neighbor.
