Former NBA center Enes Kanter Freedom is escalating his challenge to gender ideology in womens sports by recruiting additional biological male players to enter the WNBA draft after announcing his own plan to declare for the 2027 draft.
According to The Post Millennial, Freedom has urged the WNBA to adopt clear eligibility rules grounded in biological sex rather than self-declared gender identity. In a social media post, he revealed that he has already spoken with two former NBA players, three G League players, and three European professionals who are weighing whether to join him if the league refuses to tighten its standards.
They have all said that if the WNBA doesnt change the rules, theyre ready to join the movement and are considering coming out as women and putting their names in the 2027 WNBA Draft, Freedom wrote. He argued that the financial incentives alone could push more male athletes toward exploiting current policies that prioritize ideology over fairness for women.
Hear me out, Freedom explained. The NBA G- League pays players $45,000 a year, while the WNBA top players earn $1.4 million. Those men could earn an extra $1,355,000 a year by just identifying as women. Freedom did not disclose the identities of the players he has been in contact with, underscoring the sensitivity of challenging progressive orthodoxy in professional sports.
His remarks followed an emergency WNBA meeting held after both Freedom and former NBA player Royce White publicly declared their intention to enter the womens league. The WNBA declined to adopt a biological definition of womanhood, instead promising further talks and denouncing what it called bad-faith efforts intended to demean or marginalize others.
Freedom and Whites campaign unfolds amid a broader national clash over whether womens sports should be reserved for female athletes or opened to biological males who identify as women. Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham recently drew backlash for supporting sex-based eligibility standards, highlighting how even modest defenses of womens competition now invite intense pressure from the left.
