Democrats in Maine are once again elevating Graham Platner, a disgraced former U.S. Senate candidate dogged by allegations of abuse and extremist sympathies, by featuring him as the headliner at an upcoming Labor Day rally in Ellsworth.
According to Gateway Pundit, Hancock County Democrats have announced that Platner will lead the Labor Day Rally for Labor at Ellsworth City Hall at noon on September 7. As reported by NBC Boston, organizers say Platner is expected to speak about the history of unions and the important role organized labor has played in our communities and our country, with musical performances scheduled to follow.
The decision to showcase Platner has sparked outrage from two women who accuse him of serious misconduct and are urging Ellsworth organizers to withdraw the invitation. Jenny Racicot, who has accused Platner of sexual assault, and Lyndsey Fifield, who has accused him of domestic abuse, issued a joint statement Thursday condemning plans for him to speak at the rally.
While Grahams behavior is disappointing, its hardly surprising, Racicot and Fifield said. What is surprising is that there are people who are still willing to give him a platform despite his refusal to take any accountability for his actions.
The women further called on Maine residents to reject efforts to rehabilitate Platners public image in the name of partisan politics. The pair urged Mainers to stand with survivors and refuse to platform abusers.
Platner has denied the allegations against him, yet Democrat leaders in Hancock County appear determined to proceed, even as questions mount about his past and his reported Nazi-themed tattoos. For many observers, the spectacle of a popular Nazi-tattooed Democrat lecturing citizens on the virtues of organized labor underscores a troubling double standard on the left when it comes to whom they choose to celebrate.
