U.S. Sen. Darline Graham, R-S.C., newly appointed to the seat once held by her late brother, Sen. Lindsey Graham, has formally launched her bid for a full term with a campaign video presenting herself as a conservative Republican who is ready to serve.
According to Fox News, Graham released the video Thursday, only days after funeral services for her brother in Washington, D.C., and South Carolina, signaling that she intends to turn personal loss into renewed public service. In the video, she opened by thanking supporters for standing with her family during a period of intense grief, saying, "Thank you all for your prayers. They provided strength through an incredibly difficult time. I'm honored to serve South Carolina and grateful for President Trump's endorsement. And I'll work hard every day to earn it," she said in the video.
Grahams message was unmistakably rooted in core conservative principles that resonate strongly with Republican voters in the Palmetto State. "I'm a conservative Republican, and I believe this: Every life is precious. Men don't belong in women's sports. And only American citizens should vote in our elections. I'm Darline Graham. I approve this message, and I am ready to serve," she added.
The timing of the video underscored the compressed and emotionally charged nature of her campaign rollout, coming immediately after the public memorials for Lindsey Graham and a "private family burial in Pickens County, South Carolina." The late senator, who died July 11, had secured victory in the June 9 Republican U.S. Senate primary while seeking a fifth term, leaving a sudden vacancy in one of the nations most reliably conservative seats.
South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster, a Republican, moved quickly to maintain continuity in the states representation in Washington. He announced on July 13 that he would appoint Darline Graham to complete the remainder of her brothers term, and she was sworn in the following day, instantly becoming both an incumbent and a first-time officeholder.
The new senator now faces a demanding election calendar as she seeks a full six-year term in her own right. The South Carolina GOP U.S. Senate primary is set for Aug. 11, less than two weeks away, with early voting scheduled to begin Wednesday, Aug. 5, leaving little time for her to introduce herself statewide beyond her well-known family name.
Her campaign has leaned heavily into a message of duty and continuity, while also emphasizing her own readiness to lead. Her social media posts promoting the video declared, "I'm ready to serve and I humbly ask for your support on August 11th."
The video also highlighted the institutional backing she has quickly secured from national Republicans. A notice at the end of the ad stated, "PAID FOR BY NRSC AND AUTHORIZED BY DARLINE FOR SENATE," signaling that the National Republican Senatorial Committee is fully invested in defending the seat and rallying behind Graham as the preferred standard-bearer.
President Donald Trump, still the dominant force in GOP politics, has played a central role in encouraging Grahams candidacy. In a July 17 Truth Social post, he wrote, "Darline, who comes from an absolutely incredible family, has been a WINNER all of her life and, should she accept, has my Complete and Total Endorsement in the Special Election for U.S. Senate in South Carolina SHE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN. RUN, DARLINE, RUN!" he declared in part of the post.
Graham confirmed her decision publicly during a July 20 appearance on Fox News Channels Hannity, where she made her intentions unmistakable. "I'm in," she said.
She reinforced that announcement the same day in a post on X, framing her run as both a personal commitment and a continuation of her brothers work. "Its official. I'm running to represent South Carolina in the United States Senate," she said in a July 20 post on X. "Today, Im stepping forward to carry my brother Lindseys legacy on behalf of the people of South Carolina. President Trump told me, 'Run, Darline, Run.'
"With his support, I'm running all the way through the finish line in November. I hope you'll join me," she noted, adding a link to her campaign site.
Despite her advantages of incumbency, name recognition, and Trumps Complete and Total Endorsement, Graham will not have a clear path to the nomination. She faces a crowded GOP primary field that includes U.S. Reps. Ralph Norman and Russell Fry, former Gov. Mark Sanford and businessman Mark Lynch, the latter of whom challenged Lindsey Graham in the June primary and lost to the late senator.
For conservative voters, the race now centers on whether Darline Graham can both honor her brothers legacy and assert her own identity as a fighter for life, fairness in womens sports, and election integrityissues she has already placed at the heart of her message. With national Republicans closing ranks behind her and the primary fast approaching, South Carolinas GOP electorate will soon decide whether her promise that she is ready to serve is enough to secure a full term in the U.S. Senate.
