A newly disclosed letter shows that billionaire Bill Gates held a high-level Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance for years, raising fresh questions from conservatives about the reach of private influence inside the federal government.
According to WND, Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul revealed during a Senate hearing that the Microsoft co-founder was granted Q security clearance from 2014 through 2021, a period that began under President Barack Obama and fully overlapped with Dr. Anthony Faucis leadership at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Paul sought unanimous consent to place the DOE letter into the Congressional Record, underscoring his broader effort to expose what he views as an entrenched, unaccountable public-health and national-security bureaucracy.
The DOEs Q clearance is a top-secret designation that typically applies to positions involving nuclear weapons design, national laboratories, critical energy infrastructure and classified scientific research, according to the National Security Law Firm. Clearance eligibility is subject to continuous review, and reapplication is possible but difficult without demonstrable changed circumstance, the firms website notes, highlighting the sensitivity of such access.
The Department of Energy, the Gates Foundation and a spokesperson for Paul did not immediately respond to The Daily Caller News Foundations requests for comment, leaving key details about Gates specific role and responsibilities unanswered. Fauci, meanwhile, declined to answer a wide variety of questions during the hearing, even as his COVID-19 decision-making has been under fire since thousands of his early-pandemic emails were released in 2021.
Other previously reported emails showed Fauci in contact with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, an executive at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and a Chinese health official, whom Fauci assured that the United States and China would get through this together.
Paul, a persistent critic of Fauci and of risky virus research, told Fox News, The blame equally should go not only to Chinese authorities, but to Anthony Fauci and all those who advocated for this, adding, Look, Bill Gates has been over there recently. Bill Gates is the largest funder of trying to find these viruses in remote caves and bring them to big cities. What happened in China is they went 8 to 10 hours south of Wuhan, 2 to 300 feet deep into a cave, found viruses and took them back to a city of 15 million.
