LeBrons Shocking New Team Choice Just Collided With New Yorks Islamocommunist Tax Regime

LeBron James latest off-season maneuver, a high-drama decision to join a new team, has collided head-on with New Yorks increasingly radical tax regime and the citys ongoing war on wealth.

According to RedState, speculation that James might base himself in New York City while playing for the Philadelphia 76ers instantly set off a frenzy among the citys left-wing political class. Socialist officials, desperate for any high-profile billionaire willing to move in as others flee punitive policies, seized on the possibility as a propaganda victory. Back in New York City, they saw a celebrity investor and taxpayer to parade, even as their policies continue to drive out job creators and capital.

At the center of this drama stands Islamocommunist mayor Zohran Mamdani, who has been presiding over what critics describe as a socialist reign of error unprecedented in the Big Apples history. His signature initiative, a new pied-a-terre tax on New Yorkers second homes, has drawn comparisons to Bolshevik revolutionary tactics because of the way the names of wealthy property owners were exposed on a public list.

The registrys publication is difficult to view as anything other than an egregious violation of privacy, tantamount to doxing, and a thinly veiled invitation to harassment or persecution. There is no reasonable justification for this information not being kept securely in government records, yet city leaders appear more interested in ideological theater than in basic safeguards.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul, along with the silly-grinned mayor Zohran Mamdani, have treated the controversy as a joke rather than a serious breach of civil norms. Hochuls office misfired once again with an ill-conceived social media jab at James preliminary plan to live in New York and commute to Philadelphia by helicopter.

Posting a graphic labeled LePied-a-Terre https://t.co/C5ys3f5trD, Hochul added the caption, LePied-a-Terre, in an X post that mocked a potential new resident who could bring millions in tax revenue to the city. As foolish as it is to taunt a high-earning athlete considering a New York residence, James might not even have to pay the tax if he moved to the city, as the New York Post has explained.

Even if James ultimately chose to live in New York despite Hochuls tax welcome mat, it remains unclear whether he would be subject to the levy, which targets homeowners whose property is not their primary residence. The polarizing new tax, passed earlier this month in the fiscal year 2027 budget, imposes a 4 percent charge on condos and co-ops valued at $1 million to $3 million, 5.25 percent on those priced at $3 million to $5 million, and 6.5 percent on properties above $5 million.

The publication further notes that the controversial registry covers all unoccupied, non-primary residences in the five boroughs worth north of $1 million including the full names and addresses of every property owner. While New York City officials optimistically claim the measure could generate as much as $500 million in new revenue, more sober estimates place the figure closer to $340 million to $380 million.

This is how it begins: when billionaires like LeBron James pick up their ball and go home, as they are likely to do under such hostile policies, the tax dollars go with them. What remains is a hollowed-out metropolis, no longer the city that never sleeps, but a city that sleepwalked into a socialist disaster while President Trumps second administration continues to champion growth, security, and economic freedom beyond New Yorks increasingly self-inflicted decline.
