Newly released financial disclosures show that Michigan Democrat Senate hopeful Abdul El-Sayed, a self-styled progressive, and his wife quietly amassed rental properties in India, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States worth hundreds of thousands of dollars apiece while he campaigns on a left-wing economic agenda.
According to The Post Millennial, El-Sayed waited until the eve of the Michigan primary to submit the required paperwork, a move that effectively shielded key financial details from voters during most of the campaign. The filing, covering the 2025 calendar year, lists a condominium in Bangalore, India, valued between $100,001 and $250,000 and generating between $5,001 and $15,000 in income, with ownership attributed to his wife.
A second overseas property in Dubai is reported with the same valuation range, income bracket, and ownership structure, underscoring the familys substantial foreign real-estate footprint. The couple also holds a rental property in Ann Arbor, Michigan, valued between $250,001 and $500,000 and producing between $15,001 and $50,000 in income, this time listed as jointly owned.
In early July, El-Sayed attempted to justify his delay by insisting the disclosure process was complicated because of his wifes extended family holdings abroad and sought an extension on his 2026 disclosure until after the Senate primary. My wife and her family own property abroad, so getting all those tax forms is a thing, he said, portraying the delay as a bureaucratic challenge rather than a transparency issue.
His Democrat primary rival, Rep. Haley Stevens, accused him of being a millionaire and argued that voters deserved to see the full financial picture before casting their ballots. Confronted with questions about his wealth, El-Sayed conceded, Well, if, if you take my assets and her, my, my wife's assets together, then I guess they add up to something like that, a remark likely to fuel further scrutiny from voters wary of progressive politicians who preach redistribution while quietly building international property portfolios.
