A Los Angeles cannabis company is facing criticism after handing out hundreds of branded tents to homeless people on Skid Row in what it promoted as both charity and advertising.
According to The Post Millennial, Terp Science Labs, a manufacturer of terpenes and CBD products, distributed more than 500 tents emblazoned with its logo in the troubled downtown neighborhood. A store manager for the company told the California Post there was no malicious intent, saying, We did it for our marketing, but also trying to help out as well.
Were always trying best to help our community out, and especially around this time because its so hot, the manager added. The tents were a good idea and everyones been so appreciative. The campaign, however, has renewed criticism of Californias political leadership, which has presided over soaring homelessness despite massive taxpayer spending.
The latest Los Angeles report is expected to show the homeless population growing by about 3.4 percent in 2026, underscoring how progressive policies have failed to deliver real solutions while businesses and private citizens attempt stopgap measures. Content creator Harrison Baum, who discovered the tents this week, told the Post he counted at least five.
This is definitely one of the craziest things that Ive seen, he said. I think its more of a symptom of the failure of our administration to actually take care of this. His remarks reflect growing frustration among residents who see public money poured into bureaucracy instead of effective treatment, enforcement, and housing strategies.
The companys managing partner, Michelle Borrow, acknowledged concerns about it being a marketing stunt and said it was intended to help the community. If it was totally marketing, theres definitely easier, more economical ways we could direct market to our consumer, Borrow said, adding that Terp Science Labs plans to hand out hundreds more tents later this year as California officials continue to struggle with a crisis of their own making.
