According to Western Journal, the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) last week issued a more-than-250-page document promoting expanded use of climate attribution research, a methodology long championed by environmental activists and frequently cited in courtroom efforts to extract massive damages from fossil fuel companies. President Trump, posting late Sunday on Truth Social, charged that NAS climate guidance was steeped in political bias and had been used to improperly influence judicial decisions in high-stakes climate litigation.
The House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology has raised alarms that the NAS report represents a serious conflict of interest, noting that attorneys engaged in climate lawsuits helped shape the very scientific standards the Academy is now urging courts to adopt. Committee members argue that such entanglement blurs the line between neutral science and advocacy, effectively weaponizing taxpayer-funded research against private industry.
The National Academy of Sciences has historically published analytical Scientific Manuals expressly for our Federal Judiciary, Trump wrote, condemning the documents as tools for activist judges. These bogus Manuals were used by Judges to decide massive Climate Change Cases, and have created huge losses across our Country. These Manuals have been totally DISCREDITED. The Wall Street Journal editorial board, in a sharply worded Sunday op-ed titled A Climate Coup at the National Academies of Science, likewise blasted the report, which was financed in part by the Bezos Earth Fund. The board warned that the NAS framework would give a veneer of scientific legitimacy to aggressive government efforts to punish energy producers and redistribute wealth under the banner of climate accountability.
The report also says this research could help inform policies like a law in Vermont, which empowers the government to assess the financial impact on the state of fossil fuel relatedgreenhouse gas pollution and demand payments from fossil fuel companies to fund adaptation projects, the editorial stated, highlighting the sweeping implications for state-level regulation. The point is to put a scientific gloss on a coercive exercise of government power.
The White House did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundations request for comment on the presidents directive, leaving unanswered how quickly the administration will move to implement any potential funding or policy changes. Still, Trump made clear he views the NAS episode as part of a broader pattern of left-wing institutions using science as a pretext to expand government control and undermine market-driven energy policy.
Of course, the Academy has been run by Radical Left Dumocrats who, it turns out, published fraudulent, biased, and misleading Manuals on Climate Change, Trumps post continued, underscoring his charge that the organization has abandoned neutrality. Our Taxpayers should not be funding Climate Fraud, and Judges should never have relied upon it, the president concluded, signaling that federal grants and contracts tied to the disputed climate work could now face serious scrutiny.
