A senior Democrat senators attempt to attack a Republican judicial nominee on abortion backfired spectacularly after she confused a federal judge with a rock star in a post on X.

Patty Murray took aim at what she called an anti-abortion extremist but misidentified the target as Brandon Flowers, the lead singer of rock band The Killers, instead of Benjamin Flowers, the newly confirmed Sixth Circuit judge and former Ohio solicitor general. Today, Senate Republicans gave a lifetime judicial appointment to anti-abortion extremist Brandon Flowers, Murray wrote, prompting a wave of ridicule and disbelief across social media.
The Senate Judiciary Republicans X account quickly stepped in with a visual correction, posting side-by-side photos of the judge and the musician along with the dry caption, Hope this helps! Other users were far less charitable, with one writing, His name was on the placard in front of him, idiot Democrats like you are so incompetent that you cant even get that right.
Another user openly mocked the fact that the erroneous post remained online, asking, Lolol how have you not deleted this. The episode reinforced long-standing conservative criticism of Democrat lawmakers as careless and more interested in partisan theatrics than basic accuracy.
Murray, who has occupied her U.S. Senate seat since 1993 after serving in the Washington State Senate, has long been a reliable vote for the left on abortion and judicial nominations. Her blunder came in response to the confirmation of Judge Benjamin Flowers, who was appointed to the Sixth Circuit by President Donald Trump.
The man she mistakenly targeted, Brandon Flowers, is best known as the frontman of The Killers, the band behind the enduring hit Mr. Brightside.
