A man is in custody after allegedly hurling an incendiary device at 26 Federal Plaza in lower Manhattan, a major federal complex that includes FBI and ICE offices.
According to Mediaite, FBI Director Kash Patel announced on social media, This morning an individual deployed an incendiary device outside of 26 Federal Plaza in New York. The individual is in custody and two minor injuries reported thus far. FBI JTTF is investigating the incident. @NewYorkFBI. In a separate brief statement, the Bureau added, This morning an individual deployed an incendiary device outside of 26 Federal Plaza. The individual has been taken into custody. And the FBI New York office is investigating the incident.
CNN correspondent Gloria Pazmino emphasized that the attack did not result in serious harm, stating, We should say that no one has been injured as a result of this incident, which happened right outside of 26 Federal Plaza in lower Manhattan. This is home to ICE offices, the federal court, immigration court. And its right downtown in the Federal Complex where the courts and the criminal court is also located. She reported that the device was believed to have been made up of fireworks and a flammable liquid, adding, Thats according to a law enforcement source. We also understand that a person was taken into custody immediately after the smoke started going off.
Pazmino noted that authorities still took no chances with the safety of federal employees and the public, explaining, Even though no one was injured, thankfully, so far, there was a shelter in place order that went into effect for those that were inside the building. The outlet further reported that the man was armed and threatening pedestrians after setting off fireworks at the building, underscoring once again how federal facilitiesespecially those tied to immigration enforcement and national securityremain prime targets in an increasingly volatile political climate.
