Fake news CNN contributor and longtime left-wing activist Van Jones has finally drawn a bright red line against the radical Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) faction that is rapidly consuming the Democratic Party from within.
In a lengthy statement posted on X, Jones stressed that he remains a loyal Democrat and an advocate of traditional progressive priorities such as criminal justice reform, universal healthcare, free education, and environmental protections. According to Gateway Pundit, his remarks mark a sharp and unusually public rebuke of the hard-left activists who now dominate much of the partys grassroots infrastructure.
Jones declared, Im tired of being told that, to be a progressive, I now must swear allegiance to crazy ideas. Im a strong Democrat, with a winning bipartisan track record. Im rooted in progressive ideals and policies: criminal justice reform, Green New Deal, Medicare for All, free education, clean air and water. These are ideas I have fought for my entire adult life. But some people in groups like the DSA are pushing an agenda FAR outside those ideals. Supporting Hamas is not progressive. No police, no prisons, no borders is not progressive. Celebrating the murder of Israeli civilians is not progressive. These ideas are REGRESSIVE. In doing so, he drew a clear distinction between traditional liberal policy debates and the revolutionary rhetoric now fashionable on the far left.
He pressed the point with a blunt hypothetical aimed at exposing the real-world consequences of the DSAs agenda. If there were no police or prisons, if anyone in your neighborhood could do whatever they wanted, while politicians cheered on terror groups would that represent PROGRESS to you? No, that would be a step back. Those are REGRESSIVE ideas.
Jones contrasted that dystopian vision with the more conventional welfare-state policies that many Americans, including some conservatives, at least recognize as part of a legitimate policy debate. On the other hand, if everybody could see a doctor when they got sick, get a good, free education and breathe clean air would that represent progress? Yes. Those are PROGRESSIVE ideas. They are NOT the same thing. And the difference matters. His argument underscored that basic law and order, national borders, and opposition to terrorism are not partisan extremes but civilizational foundations.
He also dismantled the popular claim that the DSA merely seeks a Scandinavian-style social democracy. Some defend the far left by claiming they only want Nordic-style social democracy. If that were true, I might applaud them. I want those policies, too! But what does universal healthcare have to do with Hamas? With abolishing all law enforcement? With erasing all borders? With treating every wealthy person as a villain? Ideas matter. And these are terrible ideas. By tying the DSAs rhetoric to support for Hamas and hostility to basic security, Jones implicitly acknowledged what conservatives have long argued: the modern far left is less about social safety nets and more about ideological revolution.
Jones warned that these extremists are not operating by accident or in isolation but are executing a deliberate infiltration strategy. Right now, extremists are trying to sneak backwards proposals into our party, hoping mainstream Democrats are too frustrated with MAGA and the Democratic Party establishment to notice. But we see you.
He insisted that while Democrats may aspire to be a big tent, there must still be boundaries against those who openly undermine public safety, national sovereignty, and moral clarity. Yes, we want our Democratic Party to be a big tent. But we dont need party poopers. So STOP pooping in the punch bowl and telling us the turds are ice cubes. They arent. And we are smart enough to know the difference.
Gateway Pundit previously reported that Jones had already been sounding the alarm as DSA-backed candidates routed more moderate Democrats in New York and other states. In late June, he warned that the DSA had assembled a disciplined army of organizers while the party establishment relied on expensive television ads and distant donors, conceding that the roof is collapsing on the Democratic Party establishment.
Other prominent Democrats have echoed these concerns, including veteran strategist James Carville, who has suggested the party may ultimately require a formal split if the socialist wing continues to consolidate power. That prospect, once unthinkable, now looms larger as the DSAs influence grows in urban strongholds and on college campuses.
Jamie Metzl, a lifelong Democrat who served on President Bill Clintons National Security Council and in the State Department under Madeleine Albright, has also issued a stark warning that should resonate beyond partisan lines. According to Metzl, this is a highly coordinated, dangerous strategy by a small cadre of radical extremists determined to hijack the Democratic Party, crash the U.S. economy, and dismantle the American constitutional order itself.
