A Flying Cockroach Hijacks A KTLA Live Shot And Sends Spencer Pratt Into Viral Meltdown

A routine weather segment on Los Angeles television turned into an unexpected viral moment when a large flying cockroach landed on KTLA meteorologist Rachel Menitoff and crawled up her chest and neck during a live broadcast.

As reported by Gateway Pundit, Menitoff was delivering a weather update when the insect made its on-air debut, yet she continued her report without breaking stride. And its a lot more comfortable at this hour, but were still in the 80s here in the Valley, Menitoff said as the roach was seen crawling up her abdomen and onto her neck. So overnight temperatures arent necessarily dropping, and this leads to less recovery time from the daytime heat, she continued, powering through the segment as if nothing were wrong.

Only after the camera cut away did Menitoff react, frantically brushing her chest and shaking her arms in an effort to dislodge the intruder. Her morning news colleagues later replayed the clip, praising her composure and focus as the cockroach moved up and down her body in full view of viewers.

Speaking with KTLA.com after the broadcast, Menitoff confirmed she was fully aware of what was happening but made a deliberate choice to remain professional. I knew it was on me, she said. But I knew if I took notice of it, I wouldnt be able to continue on with the report. So I said to myself, just get through this moment and then kind of shake it off.

Menitoff also noted the irony that the segment itself was about the oppressive heat that has become a hallmark of mismanaged urban environments like Los Angeles. Ironically, the story was about the extreme heat in the Valley, and these cockroaches are attracted to the heat and the warm temperatures and our camera lights, Menitoff said. So, it was sort of the perfect environment for the roaches.

KTLA 5s morning team amplified the moment on social media, posting the clip on X with the caption, Who else could remain this cool!? Viewers quickly shared the video, turning Menitoffs on-air ordeal into a symbol of old-school professionalism in an era when many broadcasters struggle to maintain composure under far less pressure.

The incident also sparked criticism of Los Angeles leadership and the broader decline of basic urban standards under progressive governance. Former Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt blasted far-left Councilwoman Nithya Raman, declaring, Nithya Raman has made her district so filthy, you cant even do a quick news hit without cockroaches crawling all over you like some Mumbai slum, and adding pointedly, The median home price here is $1.5M.
