Texas Mayor Hit With Bombshell Felony Indictments Over Illegal Voting Scheme

A Texas mayor in the Houston area is facing a slate of felony charges that strike at the heart of election integrity and public trust.

According to Gateway Pundit, Arcola Mayor Fred Burton has been charged with two counts of illegal voting, one count of fraud, one count of tampering with government records, and one count of misuse of official information, all felonies under Texas law. Court records show the 68-year-old mayor was taken into custody Tuesday night, according to the Fort Bend County District Attorneys Office.

The illegal voting counts stem from two separate contests: the Arcola municipal runoff election in June 2025 and a City of Arcola special election in April 2026. According to the grand jury indictments, Burton is accused of helping, encouraging, or failing to prevent three people from voting when he knew they were ineligible to do so, Fox 26 Houston reported.

Local outlet KHOU noted that Burton is specifically accused of instructing at least three individuals to cast ballots in a runoff race despite knowing they were not legally permitted to vote. For conservatives who have long warned about vulnerabilities in local election systems, the allegations underscore why strict enforcement of voting laws and robust oversight are essential.

The remaining charges reach back to 2023 and focus on alleged abuses of office and taxpayer funds. In the misuse of official information charge, Burton is accused of using insider information to affect a $15,000 City of Arcola contract bid, while in the tampering with government record charge, hes accused of presenting a fake estimate to defraud the City of Arcola in 2023.

Prosecutors further allege that the fraud charge, also tied to 2023, involves Burton getting some councilmembers to sign off on two checks with a combined value of between $30,000 and $150,000. If proven, the case will stand as another reminder that even at the smallest levels of government, vigilance, transparency, and accountability are indispensable to protecting taxpayers and safeguarding the integrity of the vote.
