Failed presidential contender and longtime Never Trumper Chris Christie is once again predicting disaster for the Republican Party, this time casting the 2026 midterms as a looming catastrophe.
During an appearance on comedian Hasan Minhajs podcast Hasan Minhaj Doesnt Know, the disgraced former New Jersey governor painted a bleak picture of the GOPs future. According to Gateway Pundit, Christie used the platform to lecture Republican voters and to suggest that electoral defeat is the only way to force the party to abandon its current direction.
Christie claimed that Republicans are on our way to a monumental defeat as a party in the 2026 midterms, insisting that only a major loss would push voters to reevaluate whether they really want to continue to hear the things that led to the losing or they want to hear some different ideas, different approach. He went further, asserting that Democrats are now poised to win the House and have a better chance at taking the Senate than he had previously believed.
Pressed by Minhaj on whether Republican voters actually want honesty, Christie responded with open contempt for much of the GOP base. Well, certainly not all of them right now. Probably not a majority of them right now, he said, before arguing that Losing forces you, politically, to have to listen to the truth.
And I think were on our way to a monumental defeat as a party in the 2026 midterms, Christie continued, doubling down on his prediction of Republican collapse. And when that happens, I think people, for practical reasons, will begin to reevaluate whether they really want to continue to hear the things that led to the losing, or whether they want to hear some different ideas and a different approach.
When Minhaj asked, Do you really think the Democrats have a chance to win the 2026 midterms in a major way? Christie did not hesitate. Oh, I think theyll win the House. And frankly, I think theyve got a better chance at the Senate today than I thought they would have, given the map, he replied.
This is the same Chris Christie who was crushed in the 2024 Republican primaries, booed repeatedly by conservative audiences, and who built his entire campaign on being the anti-Trump foil. He exited the race early after failing to connect with a base that had already rejected his establishment-friendly, media-approved brand of politics years ago.
As Gateway Pundit previously reported, President Trump himself savaged Christie last December, joking that ABC fired the former governor because he wanted to eat all the time. Trump didnt hold back, skewering both George Slopadopoulos and the bloated RINO in one brutal segment, underscoring just how little sway Christie now holds with the movement he continues to scold from the sidelines.
