President Donald Trump has honored the late South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, who died suddenly at the age of 71.
According to Gateway Pundit, Graham reportedly called emergency services complaining of chest pains and was later found to be in cardiac arrest. He was subsequently pronounced dead, only days after returning from a trip to Ukraine where he had met with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In a heartfelt message on Truth Social, President Trump called Graham one of the greatest people I have ever known. Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known, is dead! he wrote.
He was always working and a true American Patriot. He will be greatly missed. DETAILS AND ARRANGEMENTS TO FOLLOW. So sad!
Though Graham was often viewed skeptically by segments of the Republican grassroots, he ultimately forged a close alliance with President Trump and emerged as one of his most dependable supporters in the Senate. The two men bonded over a shared love of golf and were known to play together frequently.
Grahams passing creates an immediate political void in the U.S. Senate at a time of intense partisan division and high-stakes legislative battles. Under South Carolina law, Governor Henry McMaster is empowered to appoint a temporary successor, but that appointment will only stand until a special election is held.
Complicating matters further for Republicans, Graham had been running for re-election, forcing the GOP to identify a new standard-bearer in a state that has long been a conservative stronghold. His death not only reshapes the political landscape in South Carolina but also raises fresh questions about the balance of power in Washington and the future direction of Republican leadership in the Senate.
