New York Citys self-described Democratic Socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani is once again proving that when it comes to radical social priorities, the money somehow always materializes.
Back in April, Mamdani warned that the city was facing an historic budget crisis, insisting that without new sources of revenue, New Yorkers would be denied essential services, according to Gateway Pundit. Now, despite that supposed fiscal emergency, his administration is proudly touting a $15 million investment in gender affirming care, a euphemism critics note is flowery language used to describe genital mutilation and the prescribing of hormones.
The mayor unveiled this initiative at a City Hall Pride event, underscoring how deeply identity politics now drives municipal policy. While taxpayers are told to brace for cuts, the citys political class appears eager to fund controversial medical interventions that many residents neither want nor support.
As reported by Gay City News, The Mamdani administration will offer new gender-affirming care services at a clinic in the Corona section of Queens, but the city is limiting that care to adults out of fear of blowback from the Trump administration, the city health commissioner said during a City Council hearing on June 5. Health Commissioner Alister Martin told council members that the city has a clinic that will be opening up in Corona which will offer gender-affirming hormone therapy for adults, prompting questioning from Queens Councilmember Tiffany Cabn, a member of the City Councils LGBTQIA+ Caucus.
Cabn emphasized the dwindling options for youth in the city at a time when private hospitals like NYU Langone and Mount Sinai have restricted gender-affirming care for minors, and she asked if the city plans to expand the care to youth. Martin replied that the administration is clearly worried about federal consequences, stating that the city fears blowback from the Trump administration, while adding there is much more to come on this.
That admission lays bare the lefts long-term agenda: activists fully intend to restore and expand gender-transition procedures for minors the moment Democrats regain full power in Washington. The instant that Democrats come back into power, they will bring back the gender transitioning of children, because they will be pressured into doing so by far left and LGBT activists.
These people do not care that the public doesnt want this. They just want what they want, even if it means diverting scarce public dollars from core services to fund an ideological project that many Americans, especially conservatives, view as both morally wrong and medically reckless.
