Radical socialist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani became the first mayor in more than six decades to boycott the citys annual Israel Day Parade on Sunday, even as he found time to attend other cultural celebrations across the five boroughs.
According to The Gateway Pundit, Mamdanis conspicuous absence from the pro-Israel event underscored a growing hostility on the left toward Americas closest ally in the Middle East and toward Jewish communities who have long called New York home. As The Geller Report notes, Mamdanis hatred of the Jewish people is so consuming, it defines his mayoralty.
Rather than stand publicly against antisemitism, Mamdani spent the day oddly pedaling around the city in a full business suit, a spectacle that quickly drew ridicule. He was also spotted riding without a helmet, flouting basic safety guidelines and setting a poor example for children, despite recently lecturing New Yorkers on the importance of bike safety.
While Mamdani snubbed the parade, Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch marched proudly, joined by former Mayors Eric Adams and Michael Bloomberg. The New York Post reports that onlookers erupted in chants of We miss you, Mike! and Jessie for mayor! as Bloomberg and Tisch walked behind the NYPD banner, surrounded by officers.
Tisch, who just days earlier had appeared with Mamdani at a press conference on parade security, made her break with City Hall unmistakable, saying, Its the mayors decision not to march, and its my decision to march proudly. Former Mayor Adams took to X to needle Mamdani, writing of the parade, This year, it means even more.
Adams added a pointed warning that speaks to the stakes of Mamdanis boycott: At a time when antisemitism is rising across our country and Jewish New Yorkers are facing hatred, intimidation, and attacks at unprecedented levels, you cannot afford silence. For many New Yorkers who still believe in standing with Israel and defending Jewish citizens, the mayors silence spoke louder than any words.
