An 18-year-old Loyola University Chicago student, Sheridan Grace Gorman, was gunned down in March near the universitys Rogers Park campus, allegedly by an illegal alien who had been allowed into the country under President Joe Bidens border policies.
As reported by Gateway Pundit, the masked assailant approached a group of students walking in the neighborhood and suddenly opened fire, striking Gorman in the head and killing her at the scene. Days later, authorities confirmed that the suspected gunman is a 25-year-old Venezuelan national who entered the United States illegally during the Biden administrations ongoing border crisis.
Police identified the suspect as Jose Medina-Medina, who was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and multiple weapons offenses. Medina-Medina has been held at the Cook County Jail since March 23 as he awaits trial in connection with Gormans death.
The case has now taken an even darker turn after Medina-Medina was allegedly found armed inside the jail. According to CBS News, Sheriff Tom Dart said staff discovered a six-inch homemade shank in his possession at around 8 a.m. on Thursday.
After staff at the Cook County Jail were tipped off about the shank, they searched him and found a sharpened piece of metal with a handle made of medical tape in his pants pocket, Dart said, according to CBS. On Friday, the Cook County States Attorneys Office approved an additional felony charge of possession of contraband in a penal institution, underscoring ongoing concerns about security and discipline in one of the nations largest jails.
The killing of Sheridan Gorman has become a powerful symbol for critics of Bidens open-border approach and of Democrat-run sanctuary jurisdictions that refuse to cooperate fully with federal immigration enforcement. Earlier this month, President Donald Trump invited Gormans family to appear at a campaign rally in Suffern, New York, where they addressed thousands of supporters and highlighted what they see as a catastrophic failure of government at every level.
Gormans mother and father stood on stage with Sheridans sister and another young woman, both holding photographs of the slain student as a reminder of the human cost of lax immigration policies. Both parents questioned how local leaders could allow such a tragedy to occur and why the basic fight to protect American citizens belongs to only one party.
She was gunned down by an illegal alien monster in cold blood, Trump told the crowd at Rockland Community College, directly tying the crime to the Biden administrations border agenda. This savage animal, who stole Sheridans life, entered illegally from Venezuela and was released into our country by Crooked Joe Biden, and that whole Biden administration of thieves and criminals. He was then arrested and released again by Dumocrat Governor JP Pritzker, a terrible governor, has no idea whats going on in the sanctuary city of Chicago. Sanctuary cities protect criminals. Theyre a sanctuary for criminals, not for people like you, like us.
Breaking down in tears, Sheridans mother, Jessica Gorman, thanked Trump and allied lawmakers for standing up for American citizens against what she called illegal alien thugs who are terrorizing communities across the country. She then delivered a searing indictment of Chicagos leadership and its sanctuary policies, which she believes gave refuge to the man accused of murdering her daughter.
Mothers Day was just two weeks ago. For most mothers, it meant flowers and cards and phone calls, or children coming home. For me, it was heartache and tears because on March 19, my beautiful daughter, Sheridan Grace Gorman, was murdered in cold blood, Jessica told the crowd, fighting through tears as the audience listened in silence. No mother should ever have to wonder if her child called out for her in her final moments. No mother should ever have to imagine her baby lying alone and bleeding on the cold pavement, and no family should ever have to bury a child because public officials failed to put innocent American lives first, she said.
For many Americans, especially those already alarmed by rising crime and unchecked illegal immigration, Sheridan Gormans death and the subsequent revelations about her accused killer encapsulate the dangers of prioritizing ideological sanctuary policies over basic public safety. Her familys public plea, amplified on the national stage, has intensified calls for a return to strict border enforcement, cooperation with federal immigration authorities, and a renewed commitment by elected officials to place the lives of law-abiding citizens above the demands of the open-borders lobby.
