Graham Platner, the scandal-ridden Maine Democrat seeking a U.S. Senate seat, is facing renewed backlash after being exposed for mocking a fellow combat veteran and declaring that he did not deserve to live.
The target of Platners remarks, Army veteran Teddy Daniels, recently responded in a Wall Street Journal op-ed and has now taken his case directly to the national media. According to Gateway Pundit, Daniels used a weekend appearance on CNN to condemn not only Platner, but also Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders for standing firmly behind the embattled candidate despite his record of inflammatory comments and personal controversies.
Daniels, a decorated veteran, told CNN he was particularly disturbed by Platners comments about the late Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, whose story became emblematic of American military sacrifice. I kind of consider the source on that, first and foremost, and Ill be honest with you, what really upset me about the comments is you know, I cant even say that I was upset. Im upset about the comment that he made about Chris Kyle. You know Chris Kyle has kids. Hes not here to defend himself.
He then turned to the impact on his own family, underscoring the moral stakes of the race and the character of those seeking high office. I have kids and you know with people like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders backing this man, I want them, I want Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders to my youngest is 8, he turns 9 in a couple days to tell my kids that theyre supporting a man who said their father didnt deserve to live. I mean, think about that. You know, thats the issue there. Its just sad that somebody like this is being considered for a position in leadership in the United States Senate.
In another segment of the same CNN appearance, Daniels argued that the modern Democratic Party has grown indifferent, if not openly hostile, to the sacrifices of American service members. He suggested that Platners rise, and the willingness of party leaders to excuse his rhetoric, reflects a broader cultural shift on the left away from honoring military service and traditional patriotism.
Despite the mounting scandals, Sanders is reportedly headlining multiple campaign events with Platner, while Warren has gone so far as to label him My kind of man. Their continued support signals that, for many progressives, ideological alignment appears to outweigh basic standards of decency, leaving voters to question what other revelations may still be lurking in Platners past as whispers grow that more dirt is on the way.
