Advisers to Sen. Bernie Sanders are rolling out a new campus initiative aimed at college students, underscoring how anxious the left has become about losing its long-standing monopoly over higher education culture.
According to the Gateway Pundit, Sanders allies are launching a project designed explicitly to counter the surging influence of Turning Point USA, the conservative campus organization founded by the late Charlie Kirk, whose unapologetically pro-free-market, pro-America message has resonated with students tired of progressive orthodoxy.
A liberal media outlet founded by Sanders advisers has now unveiled More Perfect University, a venture that will operate under the umbrella of the advocacy journalism nonprofit More Perfect Union and focus on recruiting and training liberal content creators on campuses nationwide, organizers said.
The Washington Post describes the effort under the headline, Liberals launch college project to counter Turning Point USA, making clear that this is a direct response to the rights growing traction among young voters. Weve seen the success of the right, and we aim to rival it by being a thought leader on campuses, Faiz Shakir, founder and executive director of More Perfect Union, said in a statement, tacitly acknowledging that conservative ideas are now driving much of the intellectual energy on campus.
The group already operates one of the fastest-growing left-wing channels on YouTube and has attracted attention across the political spectrum, but apparently that online presence is not enough to calm progressive fears about TPUSAs reach. The new initiative will feature three main components: on-campus events such as live interviews, debates and podcast tapings; a national digital community on email and Discord; and student contributors trained to produce a steady stream of stories for the organizations online platforms, with a stated emphasis on public and working-class campuses.
Rather than building traditional campus chapters with dues-paying members, More Perfect Union says it will rely on students to film short videos, produce podcasts and report stories in their local communities, effectively trying to manufacture a left-wing mirror image of the conservative media ecosystem. Yet the entire premise raises an obvious question: when universities are already saturated with progressive professors, DEI bureaucracies and left-leaning student groups, What is the point of a left wing version?
The success of Turning Point USA stems from offering a genuine alternative to the prevailing campus dogma, not from doubling down on it, which is why critics on the right dismiss this new Sanders-linked project as utterly pointless and an absolute waste of time. If anything, the frantic attempt to build a taxpayer-adjacent, media-driven counterweight only confirms what many conservatives have argued for yearsthat when exposed to open debate and competing ideas, young Americans increasingly find limited government, individual liberty and traditional values far more compelling than the tired slogans of the progressive left.
