Joe Rogan used his influential podcast this week to advance a conspiracy-style claim that President Donald Trump launched the war in Iran to divert public attention from newly released files on deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The controversy arose during Wednesdays episode after guest Arsenio Hall remarked that the story of American politics is misdirection, alleging that politicians routinely distract gullible citizens with one scandal to bury another. According to Mediaite, Rogan seized on that theme, recalling how ex-President Bill Clinton allegedly bombing some other countries was framed as a way to deflect from the Monica Lewinsky scandal, before asserting that the conflict with Iran fits the same pattern.
Rogan told his audience, Look, the Epstein Files comes out we go to war with Iran. Its a good way to get people to stop talking about certain things, adding, You give them a new problem to think about. The suggestion that a sitting commander-in-chief would initiate a major military operation as a distraction plays directly into the lefts long-running narrative that conservative leaders act in bad faith, even as hard evidence for such sweeping claims remains thin.
The irony is that it was Trumps own Justice Department that has overseen the release of millions of pages of Epstein-related documents since last fall. One FBI file made public earlier this year shows Trump praising Florida law enforcement in 2006 for pursuing Epstein and urging them to focus on his evil associate, Ghislaine Maxwell.
Thank goodness youre stopping him, Trump told thenPalm Beach police chief Michael Reiter, according to the FBI file. Everyone has known hes been doing this. Epstein was ultimately convicted in Florida in 2008 for soliciting prostitution, including from a minor, and later died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.
Rogan, who endorsed Trump in 2024 and hosted him weeks before the election, has nonetheless taken shots at the president this year on issues such as illegal immigration. More recently, he attacked Trump over Operation Epic Fury, warning it could trigger World War III and claiming the president has betrayed his MAGA base by starting the war, despite polling that shows Trump voters overwhelmingly back his handling of the conflict.
For many conservatives, Rogans latest comments underscore a familiar pattern in celebrity commentary: dramatic accusations aimed at a Republican president, even when the record shows that same president pushed to expose Epstein and his network. The Epstein files continue to raise serious questions about powerful figures and institutional failures, but turning a complex foreign policy decision into a talk-show conspiracy risks obscuring the real accountability that Americans deserve.
