Liberal activist and filmmaker Michael Moore has launched a blistering attack on Democrats, branding them cowards and accusing party leaders of quietly backing President Donald Trumps hard line on Iran.
In a lengthy Substack post reacting to President Trumps warning that Iranian civilization could be wiped out if Tehran refused to reach a deal by his 8 p.m. deadline, Moore claimed the president was threatening a holocaust and insisted the United States are the bad guys in the conflict, according to Mediaite. Although the president later extended the deadline by two weeks, Moore treated the episode as proof that the political establishment, including Democrats, is aligned against Iran and unwilling to challenge what he portrays as American aggression.
Moore, who has long romanticized left-wing causes abroad, painted an idealized picture of Irans past to bolster his argument. Iran is the cradle of one of the greatest civilizations this planet has ever seen, he wrote, adding, While our ancestors in Europe were still figuring out how to build a hut, the Persians had already written the worlds first declaration of human rights, built a multicultural empire that treated conquered peoples with dignity, and were doing math and medicine that we wouldnt catch up to for a thousand years.
These are the people who gave us algebra, medicine, and the theme song to Game of Thrones, Moore continued, glossing over the current regimes record of terrorism, repression, and hostility toward the West. For many conservatives, this kind of rhetoric underscores the lefts tendency to downplay the brutality of anti-American regimes while casting the United States as the villain.
Turning his ire toward Washington, Moore argued that political and media elites are willfully blind to why America is resented in parts of the world. Our leaders and our media are stupid enough to keep asking questions like why do they hate us? Hate us?! They dont hate US! WE HATE THEM! Were the bad guys! he wrote, before adding, If you didnt realize that under previous presidents at least Donald Trump has ripped off the mask and shown you who we really are!
Moore then shifted from attacking President Trump to savaging Democrats for what he sees as complicity, especially on the Middle East. The Academy Award-winning filmmaker denounced Democrats as a failed opposition party and claimed they have enabled the genocide in Gaza, his characterization of Israels war with Hamas, while singling out Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for particular scorn.
The so-called opposition party in the U.S. the party that initiated and continues to enable the genocide in Gaza and whose Senate Leader Chuck Schumer taunted Trump last year to be more aggressive with Iran stands by now and watches this horror, Moore wrote. Not simply because they are cowards, but because Democratic leadership actually supports this war, he added, effectively accusing his own party of endorsing the very policies its base claims to oppose.
The taunt Moore cited was a June 2025 post on X in which Schumer accused President Trump of folding to Iran, a message that undercuts Democrats frequent claims to be a moderating force on foreign policy. President Trumps initial threat against Iran, meanwhile, prompted dozens of Democratic lawmakers to demand his immediate removal from office, a move that played well with the partys activist wing but did little to change the strategic reality.
Moore also resurfaced a clip from his film chronicling President Trumps political rise and warned his readers that they cannot depend on Democrats to restrain the White House. He urged the left to escalate its resistance by calling for the impeachment of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and demanding congressional hearings into the administrations Iran policy.
NO ONE IS COMING TO SAVE US. WE MUST DO IT OURSELVES, he wrote, before escalating his rhetoric further: THIS MADNESS MUST STOP! AMERICAS MILITARY LEADERS MUST DISOBEY ILLEGAL AND IMMORAL ORDERS! For conservatives, Moores broadside highlights a familiar pattern on the left: vilifying America and its allies, absolving hostile regimes, and attacking not only President Trump but also the Democratic establishment for failing to go even further to the radical fringe.
