The memorial service for Jesse Jackson in Chicago, Illinois, quickly shifted from a remembrance of a civil rights figure into a platform for partisan messaging by top Democrat leaders.
According to Gateway Pundit, former Presidents Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden attended the event, joined by Hillary Clinton and Jill Biden, underscoring how thoroughly the Democratic establishment sought to claim Jacksons legacy. Jackson, often styled as Reverend, died last month at the age of 84 after suffering from progressive supranuclear palsy, a rare neurodegenerative disease.
Like Barack Obama, failed presidential candidate Kamala Harris used the funeral to deliver a politically divisive address rather than a unifying tribute. Harris, whose shifting speech patterns have long drawn criticism, appeared to revive her much-mocked affectation, prompting renewed accusations that Kamala Harriss fake accent is back.
Let me just say I predicted a lot about whats happening right now. Im not into saying I told you so but we did see it coming, Harris said, framing current events as vindication of her partys warnings. But what I did not predict is that we would not have Jesse Jackson with us right now to help us get through this, she added, casting Jackson as a missing guide in the present political climate.
Obama went further, using the pulpit to attack President Trumps administration and turn the service into what critics saw as a campaign-style spectacle. Everywhere we see greed and bigotry being celebrated, and bullying and mockery masquerading as strength, Obama said, in a thinly veiled broadside against his Republican successor.
We see science and expertise denigrated while ignorance and dishonesty and cruelty and corruption are reaping untold rewards, Obama continued, painting a dark picture of the country under conservative leadership. Every single day we see that, and its hard to hope, he said, a strikingly pessimistic message for an event ostensibly meant to honor a mans life rather than score partisan points.
