Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton has launched a new U.S. Senate campaign advertisement built almost entirely around a crude attack on President Donald Trump.
The spot opens with a series of Illinois residents declaring, F**k Trump; vote Juliana, before Stratton herself appears on screen. According to The Blaze, Stratton then proclaims, They said it, not me. Im Juliana Stratton, and Im proud to have lived my whole life on the South Side of Chicago. Im not scared of a wannabe dictator. Im running for Senate to stand up to Donald Trump. Ill abolish ICE and hold Trump accountable for the crimes hes committed.
Stratton closes the ad by dropping any pretense of distance from the vulgarity, stating, Just like they said, f**k Trump, as a chorus of residents continues to chant f*** Trump. For a statewide official seeking higher office, the message is less about policy and more about signaling allegiance to the far-left resistance, even at the expense of basic civility.
BlazeTV host Jason Whitlock, speaking on Jason Whitlock Harmony, underscored how unprecedented this kind of rhetoric is for a sitting lieutenant governor. This Juliana Stratton, the lieutenant governor for J.B. Pritzker, the lieutenant governor for the state of Illinois shes running for the Senate, and her campaign seems to be based on bashing Donald Trump in the most profane way possible, Whitlock observed. It just seems bizarre. This woman is 60 years old. Shes got four kids, he added, questioning the example being set for both her family and the public.
BlazeTV contributor Shemeka Michelle expressed deep discomfort with Strattons approach, particularly as it relates to the image of black women in politics. I got secondhand embarrassment from looking at this, simply because this is a black woman, you know? she said, lamenting that identity politics has not produced the promised elevation of public discourse. I dont think women have elevated the conversation at all, and I dont think black women have elevated the political conversation. This was silly. What they brought is more delusion into the conversation, she continued.
Michelle also challenged the substance of Strattons priorities, given the harsh realities facing Chicagos South Side. How can you be from the South Side of Chicago and make your focus Donald Trump? she asked, pointing out that most of the citys shootings occur in that very community. For many residents, crime, failing schools, and economic stagnation are far more pressing than performative outrage against a political opponent.
On immigration, Michelle argued that Strattons promise to abolish ICE is wildly out of step with the concerns of ordinary Chicagoans. Its crazy because I see so many people from Chicago excited that ICE is there. Like I saw them complaining that the illegal immigrants had taken over community centers, that their children werent allowed to play in community centers any more, she explained, highlighting the real-world consequences of open-borders policies. So either shes not listening to the people going out to vote, or she just doesnt care. This is about her just trying to elevate her political platform, because your people dont want illegal immigrants there, she added, suggesting Stratton is catering to a progressive base rather than the voters she claims to represent.
