The Biden-Harris campaigns latest attempt to court young voters online has backfired spectacularly, with a rebranded Kamala Harris-aligned X account scrambling to change its handle after widespread ridicule from both conservatives and legacy media.
The account, now calling itself HQ after previously operating as KamalaHQ, initially shifted its handle from @headquarters_67 to @headquarters68_ in what appeared to be an effort to tap into the Gen Alpha 67 meme, a fad that many observers say had already peaked by 2025, according to The Post Millennial. The 67 trend, popular among younger users for no reason beyond its own viral momentum, was already being described as pass even before the campaign-linked account tried to capitalize on it.
Once the rebrand went live, users quickly noticed that the HQ media page had adopted the 67 suffix, prompting a flood of mockery that underscored how out of touch the effort seemed. A video of the former Vice President announcing the change drew countless replies deriding the move as a clumsy, pandering attempt to appeal to Gen Alpha voters.
Conservative journalist Chris Rufo captured the sentiment from the right, remarking, "My children have informed me that '67' is already old, tired, and cringe, so once again, Kamala is coming up short." Republican strategist Matt Whitlock was equally blunt, writing on X, "Kamala putting '67' in her handle because she thinks the kids like it is the 2026 version of Hillary Clinton's 'Pokemon GO to the polls.'"
Even CNN, typically friendly territory for Democrats, dismissed the gimmick, noting that 67 was something kids only "used to say," and labeling the Harris-linked handle as "cringe." That rare rebuke from liberal media underscored just how misjudged the branding exercise was, especially for a campaign already struggling to energize younger voters without alienating older, more traditional constituencies.
Following the backlash, the account hastily swapped 67 for 68, a move that only invited more derision and highlighted the campaigns reactive, poll-tested style of messaging. X user Michael Duncan quipped, "Kamala changed it from 67 to 68. Another victory for cyber bullying."
Others tied the shift directly to CNNs criticism, with one user noting, "CNN calls Kamalas 67 rebranded X account cringe so they changed it. To 68." Conservative influencer Vince Langman summed up the episode as emblematic of Harriss digital missteps, saying, "This is hilarious, after getting destroyed on X for using the cringe worthy headquarters 67 team Kamala have already changed it to headquarters 68."
