A controversial FBI supervisor who pursued a civil-rights probe against an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer who acted in clear self-defense has now left the bureau.
According to Gateway Pundit, Tracee Mergen, a supervisory agent in the FBIs Minneapolis field office overseeing fraud and public corruption cases, resigned after initiating a civil rights inquiry into ICE agent Jonathan Ross over the fatal shooting of far-left activist Renee Good.
MS Now reported that Tracee Mergen, an FBI supervisor in the Minneapolis field office who oversees fraud and public corruption cases, resigned in frustration over the handling by Justice Department leadership of the Good shooting investigation and the pivot of the original search warrant subject, according to two of the sources.
Mergens departure was described as politically charged, driven in part by her opposition to the Trump administrations tougher stance on left-wing unrest in Minnesota. She was said to be frustrated as well with the Trump administrations decision to treat protesters in Minnesota as possible domestic terrorists and conduct mass arrests of people peaceably protesting, according to two people familiar with her decision.
The underlying incident involved Good refusing to comply with Rosss lawful commands before attempting to run him over with her vehicle. Ross, a federal officer carrying out his duties detaining illegal aliens, responded by shooting Good in what was by all available evidence a justified act of self-defense.
Despite the clear danger Ross faced, Mergens civil-rights inquiry was reportedly aimed at determining whether he used excessive force and, if so, potentially charging him with a crime. That effort raised serious concerns among conservatives about the politicization of federal law enforcement and the willingness of some officials to target officers for doing their jobs.
The FBI, for its part, declined to discuss Mergens exit from the bureau. The FBI doesnt comment on personnel matters, a spokesperson said in a statement.
Federal officials have made clear that the facts do not support the narrative pushed by left-wing activists. The facts on the ground do not support a civil rights investigation, the spokesperson added, noting that the FBI continues to investigate the incident as well as the violent criminal actors and those perpetrating illegal activity, they continued.
Subsequent reports revealed that Ross suffered internal bleeding in the torso as a result of Goods attempt to run him over. In response, patriots across the country have raised over $1 million for Ross and his wife to help them cope with the physical, emotional, and financial toll of the ordeal.
As crazed leftists sought revenge, Ross was doxxed online, and federal agents were seen removing items from his home as his family reportedly went into hiding for their safety.
Meanwhile, the Department of Justice has launched a criminal investigation into Goods widow for her alleged role in the chain of events that led to Goods death, underscoring that the real criminal exposure in this case lies not with the officer who defended his life, but with those who helped create the deadly confrontation.
