The Covenant School, a Christian academy in Nashville, Tennessee, where a mass shooting by a transgender individual claimed the lives of three children and three adults, has filed a court motion to intervene in lawsuits demanding the public release of Audrey Hale's manifesto.
The National Police Association (NPA) and Tennessee Firearms Association (TFA) have separately filed suits against the city to have the manifesto released. The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) reviewed Hale's writings to assess the possibility of making them public when these lawsuits were filed.
The school has argued that releasing this information could potentially endanger the security and safety of the school, its staff, and students. The motion also asserts that the requested records in the lawsuits may contain sensitive information about the school, such as facility schematics and confidential data regarding employees and students.
Wally Dietz, Director of Law for Metro Nashville, issued a statement expressing support for the school's motion, stating, "Metro supports the motion because we believe the Church and the School have a right to be heard." The city of Nashville also weighed in, stating that "The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson does not oppose the intervention of Covenant Presbyterian Church of Nashville or The Covenant School.
The Metropolitan Government believes these entities have vital interests in whether the documents in MNPD's investigative file are released to the public. The Metropolitan Government supports their intervention and asks that the Court give them an opportunity to participate in the show cause hearing and consider their interests and arguments."
