In a recent outburst, President Donald Trump took aim at late-night television host Stephen Colbert, labeling him a "dead man walking" and urging CBS executives to take the "humanitarian" step of ending his show.
"Stephen Colbert is a pathetic trainwreck, with no talent or anything else necessary for show business success," Trump expressed in a late-night post on Truth Social, criticizing the host whose program is set to conclude in a few months.
As reported by The New York Post, Trump continued his critique by highlighting Colbert's declining performance and ratings, stating, "Now, after being terminated by CBS, but left out to dry, he has actually gotten worse, along with his nonexistent ratings. Stephen is running on hatred and fumes ~ A dead man walking! CBS should, put him to sleep, NOW, it is the humanitarian thing to do!"
The President further challenged the quality of late-night hosts across major networks, questioning, "Who has the worst Late Night host, CBS, ABC, or NBC??? They all have three things in common: High Salaries, No Talent, REALLY LOW RATINGS!"
Trump's remarks extended beyond Colbert, as he suggested that networks could face consequences for their negative portrayal of him and his political allies. "If Network NEWSCASTS, and their Late Night Shows, are almost 100% Negative to President Donald J. Trump, MAGA, and the Republican Party, shouldnt their very valuable Broadcast Licenses be terminated? I say, YES!" he asserted.
The President's comments came after CBS aired a rerun of "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" following the broadcast of "The Kennedy Center Honors," an event hosted by Trump. Colbert's show, which is scheduled to end in May 2026, was reportedly canceled for financial reasons, a decision Trump welcomed.
"I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!" Trump remarked in July, using the cancellation as a cautionary tale for other late-night hosts.
Trump also praised Greg Gutfeld, a conservative commentator, as superior to his late-night counterparts, including those on NBC. "Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show," he stated. This sentiment aligns with Trump's broader critique of the media landscape, which he perceives as biased against conservative viewpoints.
In his ongoing feud with late-night television, Trump has not spared other hosts. He criticized Jimmy Kimmel, who faced suspension from ABC for remarks about conservative activist Charlie Kirk, and Seth Meyers of NBC's "Late Night," whom Trump accused of suffering from "Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS)."
"He was viewed last night in an uncontrollable rage, likely due to the fact that his show is a Ratings DISASTER. Aside from everything else, Meyers has no talent, and NBC should fire him, IMMEDIATELY!" Trump declared.
The President's outspoken stance on media figures underscores his commitment to challenging what he perceives as liberal bias in entertainment and news, advocating for a media environment that aligns more closely with conservative values and perspectives.
