In a significant development, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has reportedly removed 101 illegal alien truck drivers from California's highways.
This action, part of Operation Highway Sentinel, targeted individuals from a diverse array of countries, including India, Mexico, Colombia, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Nicaragua, Russia, Georgia, Venezuela, El Salvador, and Honduras.
As reported by Breitbart, California has become a central hub for the illegal issuance of commercial driving licenses (CDLs), a situation that has raised serious safety concerns nationwide. The state's Democrat governor, Gavin Newsom, has been criticized for policies that allegedly contribute to this crisis.
According to Fox News, ICE Deputy Director Madison Sheahan remarked, "Gavin Newsoms sanctuary state policies are costing American lives. His government knowingly issued thousands of CDLs to illegal aliens who had no business driving at all, let alone behind the wheel of a massive semi-truck. These drivers get their licenses, leave California, then terrorize roads all over the country."
The operation's success is seen as a corrective measure where state policies have fallen short. Sheahan emphasized that ICE's intervention is crucial in ensuring road safety, stating, "ICE is stepping in where his state failed. Just like our operations in Oklahoma and Indiana, we are taking these dangerous illegal alien truckers off the roads and making California streets safe again."
The issue extends beyond mere licensing, as some of these drivers reportedly lack proficiency in English, which poses additional risks to road safety. The majority of the arrests took place on highways and at ports, with the drivers' CDLs being confiscated.
An audit conducted by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy revealed that California had unlawfully issued thousands of CDLs to foreign nationals, prompting their revocation. Duffy commented, After weeks of claiming they did nothing wrong, Gavin Newsom and California have been caught red-handed. Now that weve exposed their lies, 17,000 illegally issued trucking licenses are being revoked. This is just the tip of the iceberg. My team will continue to force California to prove they have removed every illegal immigrant from behind the wheel of semitrucks and school buses.
The situation has also raised alarms about national security, as federal and state officials warn of cartel operatives and foreign nationals exploiting the CDL system to infiltrate freight corridors. This development underscores the need for stringent enforcement of immigration laws and the protection of American citizens from the consequences of lax state policies.
