High-Profile Trump-Hater Steps Into The NY Congressional Race

George Conway, a well-known attorney and outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, has officially entered the race for a congressional seat in New York City.

On Monday, Conway filed his candidacy papers, aiming to secure a position in a heavily Democratic district in Manhattan. This district is currently represented by Democratic New York Rep. Jerry Nadler, who has announced his retirement. Conway, who resides in Bethesda, Maryland, a prosperous suburb of Washington, D.C., is expected to leverage his legal expertise and his reputation as a staunch adversary of Trump in his campaign.

As reported by the Daily Caller, Conway, 62, is a familiar figure in liberal media circles and frequently voices his opposition to Trump on a podcast titled George Conway Explains It All, which he co-hosts for The Bulwark. His public persona is marked by his participation in events such as the No Kings rally in October, where he was seen wearing a shirt emblazoned with I am Antifa. The Daily Caller News Foundation was the first to report on this incident. Conway's recent search for a Manhattan apartment, amid his contemplation of a congressional bid, may open him up to accusations of being a "carpetbagger."

The race for this central Manhattan district, encompassing iconic locations such as Central Park, Times Square, and Rockefeller Center, has drawn a significant number of contenders, with the Democratic primary scheduled for June 2026. Among the notable candidates is Jack Schlossberg, the 32-year-old grandson of President John F. Kennedy. Schlossberg, who has previously supported former Vice President Kamala Harris in her 2024 presidential campaign, has faced criticism for his controversial social media remarks, including attacks on his uncle, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Another candidate in the fray is Cameron Kasky, a 25-year-old Parkland shooting survivor and democratic socialist. Kaskys campaign is centered around progressive policies, including the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the establishment of a Medicare for All system. Additionally, Assembly member Micah Lasher, representing the affluent Upper West Side, is considered a formidable contender. Lasher has a history of political involvement, having served as an aide to Nadler.

Conway's political journey is marked by his departure from the Republican Party and his past affiliation with the conservative Federalist Society. He co-founded the anti-Trump Lincoln Project during President Trump's first term but distanced himself from the organization following revelations of a sexual harassment scandal that its leadership allegedly overlooked. Conway's personal life also made headlines with his divorce from Kellyanne Conway, a former aide to President Trump, in 2023 after more than two decades of marriage.

As the race for this pivotal Manhattan seat unfolds, Conway's candidacy adds a layer of intrigue, given his high-profile legal career and vocal opposition to Trump. The crowded Democratic primary promises to be a battleground of diverse ideologies and backgrounds, reflecting the dynamic political landscape of New York City.
