The National Education Association (NEA) is reportedly preparing teachers to promote gender and racial ideologies in classrooms, while simultaneously combating the efforts of Republicans and parent groups who are opposed to such an agenda.
This information was revealed through leaked materials intended for an upcoming training event.
As reported by the Daily Caller, the NEA's training, titled "Advancing LGBTQ+ Justice and Transgender Advocacy," is scheduled to take place from December 2 to 6. The participant handouts, discovered by parental advocacy group Defending Education (ED), accuse conservatives of employing "racist dog whistles" and "transphobic tropes" to incite fear and cause harm.
The materials also guide teachers on how to integrate progressive ideologies, such as gender theory and pronoun usage, into their teaching.
The training aims to dismantle "systems of privilege and oppression as it relates to LGBTQ+ educators and students" and to enhance "skills and strategies to confront implicit bias, micro-aggressions and stereotypes." The NEA materials state, The right has exploited ignorance about transgender people and our lack of an affirmative, race-forward message to advance anti-trans attacks, further splinter and impugn the left, and sabotage progressives on a broad range of issues."
The NEA further alleges that Republicans have sparked "a moral panic over transgender youth" and have rallied their base with "a potent mix of racist and transphobic tropes." The union maintains that teachers have the "right" to offer an "inclusive curriculum."
The leaked documents suggest language that teachers can use to foster "more expansive attitudes towards our genders and transgender people." They also provide a sample gender "Transition Announcement Email." The NEA advises members to use the term "genders" instead of "gender" to normalize the concept of infinite gender possibilities. The materials also encourage the practice of introducing one's pronouns to groups and urging others to do the same, claiming it "shifts people towards our worldview."
The NEA also urges participants to "Name the villains who violate our values." The materials state, "[C]ertain politicians are pushing laws that restrict our freedoms because of the color of our skin, whats in our wallets, or because we are transgender. They exploit divisions and fears among us so they can get and hold onto power, denying us the basic rights, resources, and respect all people deserve."
The union also advises individuals to demonize those who oppose men participating in women's sports by reframing their criticisms as discrimination against women, rather than advocacy for women. The NEA suggests that supporting transgender women athletes should be seen as part of the broader fight for equality in girls' and women's sports.
The NEA's suggested talking point reads, "[I]nstead of striving for equality in sports, certain politicians are distracting us from the real issue by blaming transgender women, instead of helping make sports a better place for all women."
The NEA has yet to respond to the Daily Caller News Foundations request for comment. The implications of these leaked materials and the upcoming training event continue to spark debate, highlighting the ongoing tension between traditional values and progressive ideologies in the educational sphere.
