Is AOC The Dems' New Trump?

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, despite her radical views and lack of qualifications, appears to have a clear trajectory towards securing the Democratic presidential nomination.

This is a concerning development for those who value traditional American principles and free-market economics.

On Tuesday, socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani is expected to become the next mayor of New York City. His radical agenda includes a rent freeze, city-owned grocery stores, and a $30-an-hour minimum wage. He has previously voiced his support for "seizing the means of production."

In 2020, he took to Twitter to express his views on the New York Police Department, stating, "The NYPD is racist, anti-queer and a major threat to public safety." His platform also includes taxpayer-funded gender reassignment surgeries.

Despite his extreme positions, Mamdani's political standing has not been negatively affected. Polls suggest that younger liberal voters are increasingly embracing socialism. This trend is a direct result of decades of indoctrination in public schools and colleges, where anti-American ideologies such as critical race theory are taught.

Consequently, America's most educated young people lack a basic understanding of economics and are ignorant of socialism's historical failures.

Instead of rebuking these radical ideologies, Democratic leaders, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and New York Governor Kathy Hochul, have endorsed Mamdani. According to Conservative Daily News, this endorsement is a clear indication that establishment Democrats are capitulating to the socialists within their ranks.

The rise of Mamdani and the acceptance of his radical views by establishment Democrats suggest that Ocasio-Cortez could secure the Democrats' 2028 presidential nomination if she chooses to run. This is based on the observation of the Democrats' 2020 primary process, where socialist Senator Bernie Sanders nearly clinched the nomination. The Democratic Party establishment, fearing a loss to President Donald Trump, rallied around former President Joe Biden, who had strong support among black voters due to his association with former President Barack Obama.

Since 2020, Democrats have not rejected Sanders' socialism but have instead sought to implement it. In 2021, Biden signed a stimulus bill that could have been drafted by a Sanders administration, leading to rampant inflation. The party has also grown more radical on issues such as open borders and supporting men in women's sports.

The endorsement of Mamdani by establishment Democrats and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's decision to go along with a strategically reckless government shutdown are clear indications of their fear of the radical left. Sanders, who nearly won the 2020 nomination, is now passing the socialist torch to Ocasio-Cortez.

If Ocasio-Cortez decides to run, she could secure at least 30% of the Democratic base as the election approaches. However, the field is expected to be crowded, with potential contenders such as Governor Gavin Newsom, Pete Buttigieg, Governor J.B. Pritzker, Governor Josh Shapiro, Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and even Kamala Harris.

The 2028 Democratic presidential primary could mirror the Republicans' 2016 primary, where Donald Trump captured a significant portion of the Republican base with his celebrity status and hardline stance on immigration. In this scenario, Ocasio-Cortez would play a similar role to Trump, although her ideas and leadership skills are far inferior.

Republicans should not underestimate the potential of a major party nominee. As Trump demonstrated in 2016, it would be a mistake to assume that the nominee of a major party stands no chance of winning. The rise of radical ideologies within the Democratic Party and the potential nomination of Ocasio-Cortez should serve as a wake-up call for conservatives to uphold traditional American values and principles.
