Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas known for her far-left positions, is contemplating a bid for the Senate in the upcoming midterm elections.
She has suggested that her potential victory would serve as "karma" against Republican-led redistricting initiatives in Texas. "If you want to take my seat of 766,000 away, I feel like there has to be some karma in that to where I take your seat that is for 30 million away," Crockett remarked during a conversation with radio host Lurie Daniel Favors.
As reported by The Washington Free Beacon, Crockett has gained notoriety for her contentious remarks and actions. She has previously disparaged Gov. Greg Abbott by referring to him as "Governor Hot Wheels," a derogatory comment about his disability.
Additionally, she has been critical of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, labeling him a racist following his assassination, and expressed discontent that only "two Caucasians" in Congress opposed a resolution in his honor. Crockett has also targeted Florida gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds for his interracial marriage, further cementing her reputation as a polarizing figure within her party.
Despite the controversies, Crockett is buoyed by polling data that places her ahead in a crowded Democratic primary field. "Every other day there's a poll that comes out that makes it clear that I can win the primary for the U.S. Senate race in Texas," she asserted to Favors. A recent University of Houston poll indicates Crockett leading with 31 percent of the vote, surpassing state representative James Talarico by six points and outpacing Colin Allred, a failed 2024 Senate candidate, by 18 points.
Crockett's potential candidacy raises questions about her ability to expand the electorate in a state that has consistently supported conservative values. "The question will be whether or not we believe that we've got enough juice to expand the electorate," she stated. Texas, a state that has voted for President Donald Trump three times, remains a Republican stronghold.
In the 2024 elections, Republican Senator Ted Cruz defeated Allred by a margin of nine points, underscoring the challenges Crockett may face in her pursuit of a Senate seat.
