Phil Mickelson, the renowned golfer with six major titles to his name, took to social media on Wednesday to voice his discontent with Democratic economic policies.
In a pointed critique on his X account, Mickelson accused the Democratic Party of implementing measures that inadvertently increase the financial burden on American citizens.
Mickelson's comments were a direct response to a video shared by the Democratic Party's official page, which featured Virginia gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger. According to Western Journal, Mickelson stated, "Your intent is noble. Your policies do the opposite of your intent."
He further criticized the Affordable Care Act, asserting that it led to soaring healthcare costs and necessitated government subsidies to conceal its detrimental effects.
The golfer did not stop there, as he also took aim at the Democrats' approach to climate and housing policies. "Investment in alternative energies are great and necessary but not economically practical to overtake fossil fuels, and ultimately raises energy costs," Mickelson argued. He also contended that rent control policies diminish the construction of affordable housing, thereby driving prices up. "Your heart is in the right place but what works is not always what sounds good," he concluded.
Spanberger's video, which prompted Mickelson's response, highlighted her commitment to reducing living costs for Virginians if elected. "It is only in Virginia and New Jersey that we have statewide elections where we can prove to the rest of the country when given, when we have the opportunity to make a change at home in our state, we will take it!" Spanberger declared.
She emphasized her focus on lowering costs in housing, healthcare, and energy, pledging to collaborate with the General Assembly to make life more affordable for residents.
Mickelson's recent remarks are part of a broader pattern of criticism directed at Democrats. Last month, he controversially suggested that Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota should be deported to Somalia. In May, he labeled Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer a "traitor" to the United States.
Mickelson's outspoken stance reflects a growing trend among some public figures who are increasingly vocal about their dissatisfaction with liberal policies, advocating instead for approaches that align with conservative principles of limited government and free-market solutions.
