Tom Emmer Tears Into Democrats For Shutting Down The Government

As the government shutdown extends into its second week, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer of Minnesota has issued a stern rebuke to Senate Democrats, accusing them of prioritizing partisan politics over the welfare of the American populace.

In an exclusive video obtained by Blaze News, Emmer criticizes the Democrats for their refusal to pass a Republican-backed funding bill before the September 30 deadline, resulting in a legislative deadlock.

According to The Blaze, Emmer's video highlights the Democrats' repeated rejection of efforts to reopen the government. "The Democrats in the U.S. Senate have now voted 'no' on reopening the government seven times," Emmer states. He underscores the impact of the shutdown on over 400,000 Minnesotans dependent on SNAP benefits, as well as on air traffic controllers and Customs and Border Patrol agents who are not receiving their salaries.

Despite the shutdown, President Donald Trump's administration has taken steps to alleviate the burden on affected individuals, ensuring that military service members receive their paychecks on October 15.

Emmer, speaking from the United States Capitol near the Senate chamber, emphasizes the stark differences between the spending bills proposed by Republicans and Democrats. The Republican bill, he asserts, is a bipartisan measure that maintains current government funding levels through November 21, devoid of ideological provisions.

In contrast, the Democrat bill is laden with such provisions. Emmer specifically calls out Democrat Senator Tina Smith, who represents Minnesota alongside him, for consistently voting against efforts to keep the government operational.

"You want to put illegals back on taxpayer-funded health care benefits while at the same time gutting our rural hospital fund of $50 billion that we created just this summer," Emmer criticizes Smith. His remarks reflect a broader conservative concern about prioritizing American citizens' needs over those of illegal immigrants, especially in the context of taxpayer-funded benefits.

The video captures Emmer's frustration with the Democrats' stance, as he reiterates, "All these Democrats are putting their political issue ahead of the American people. This is insane, and it's wrong." His message is clear: Democrats should prioritize reopening the government and focus on serving the American people rather than engaging in political maneuvering.

Emmer's call to action is a plea for Democrats to "Reopen the government. Let's get back to work. Put the people before your politics. Stop hurting Americans. Let's get back to work and finish the job that we were all sent here to do."

His words resonate with a conservative perspective that values limited government intervention and prioritizes the needs of American citizens, urging a swift resolution to the ongoing shutdown.
