Eric Trump, the son of President Donald Trump, has hinted at a possible departure from the political scene, at least for the time being.
In a recent conversation with the Daily Mail, he discussed his decision to step back from politics after a decade of campaigning for his father. He also shared his thoughts on the potential political futures of his siblings.
Eric Trump has spent the last two years penning his memoir, "Under Siege: My Family's Fight to Save Our Nation." He described the writing process as cathartic. The book, set to be released on Tuesday, offers fresh insights into the life of the Trump family, including the death of Ivana Trump, the family's matriarch. It also features over 100 previously unseen photographs.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Eric Trump recalled how he informed his father of his decision to withdraw from politics the day after the 2024 election. His focus, he said, would now be on the Trump Organization and his family. However, he did not rule out the possibility of his or his siblings' return to the political limelight.
Reflecting on his political journey, Eric Trump said, "We came down the famous golden escalator, and I was on that stage every single second for a 10, 11, 12-year period of time. I did thousands of events. I mean, I've stood on every tractor in the country with a bull horn, every church in the country and every town in every one of those swing states."
While he expressed admiration for his father's political mission, he also expressed a desire to return to his work, his family, and the Trump Organization. He stated, "I love what he's doing, but at some point I wanted to get back to work, I wanted to get back to my family, I wanted to get back to capitalism. I wanted to get back to the Trump Organization."
Eric Trump also shared his thoughts on which of his siblings could potentially succeed their father in the political arena. He expressed high hopes for his youngest brother, Barron, describing him as an "eligible bachelor." He also praised his siblings' unique voices in politics, noting Ivanka's measured approach, Donald Trump Jr.'s distinctive voice, and Tiffany's charm.
As for his own political future, Eric Trump said he could consider running for office "only if it got so bad that I had no other choice." He recounted telling his father, "Pops, I love you to death but I'm retiring from politics," the day after the 2024 election. He admitted, however, that his heart remains in the political fight, and that he may return to campaigning in the future.
Eric Trump's memoir, "Under Siege," delves into the challenges his family, company, and country faced after his father's election in 2016. It also offers a glimpse into his personal life and experiences. He described the writing process as cathartic, saying, "I'm a developer. I'm a guy who loves steel and concrete and yet it was cathartic as hell."
The book also addresses the death of his mother, a topic he has rarely discussed publicly. He said, "I get into some pretty sentimental stuff about my mom's death. Finding her, cleaning up the mess in the aftermath, both literally and figuratively. I've never shared any of those stories publicly and it was hard to put down on paper."
Eric Trump concluded by saying that he held nothing back in his book, and that he expects it to ruffle some feathers. He said, "I think there's going to be some people who have their feathers ruffled, and that's fine. After what they put us through they deserve to have their feathers ruffled."
