In a recent development, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) has announced her intention to introduce a resolution aimed at stripping Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) of her committee assignments.
This move comes as a response to what Mace termed as Omar's "disgraceful remarks" concerning the assassination of Turning Point USA founder, Charlie Kirk.
According to Breitbart, Mace took to social media platform X to share images of the proposed resolution. The resolution seeks not only to censure Omar but also to remove her from her positions on the Committee on Education and Workforce and the Committee on the Budget.
The resolution, as seen in the images shared by Mace, includes a series of 'whereas' clauses, outlining the reasons for the proposed action. It highlights Kirk's lifelong advocacy for freedom of speech, civil political discourse, and youth political engagement. It also acknowledges Kirk as a man of deep faith, a husband, and a father to two young children.
The resolution further details the circumstances surrounding Kirk's assassination on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University, where he was exercising his First Amendment right to freedom of speech. It then points to Omar's actions in the days following Kirk's death, including an interview she gave on a Zeteo Town Hall with Mehdi Hasan, in which she allegedly smeared Kirk and implied he was to blame for his own murder.
The resolution also cites a video Omar reposted on X, which disparaged Kirk's character and those mourning his death. The video, according to the resolution, stated, "Charlie Kirk is dead, and before the body got cold, the far-Right propped his corpse up as a cudgel for their holy war," and "Dont be fooled, these people dont give a single shit about Charlie Kirk, they are just using his death to further their Christofascist agenda."
Breitbart News previously reported that during her interview with former MSNBC anchor Medhi Hasan, Omar criticized conservatives such as Mace and President Donald Trump, accusing them of falsely suggesting that political violence is a left-wing problem.
Omar expressed her expectation that Trumps address to the nation would have been a lot more compassionate-filled and less partisan, and described Kirk as being someone who was willing to debate and downplay the death of George Floyd in the hands of Minneapolis police.
In the same interview, Omar stated, "There is nothing more effed up than to completely pretend that his words and actions have not been recorded and in existence for the last decade or so. You have people like Nancy Mace who constantly harass people that she finds inferior and wants them not to exist in this country or ever, and you have people like Trump who has incited violence against people like me. And so, these people are full of shit and its important for us to call them out."
When questioned about Omars comments, in which she referred to Kirk as a reprehensible human being, and whether she should be stripped of her committee assignments, Trump described Omar as a disgraceful person. He stated, I think shes a disgraceful person. I think shes a disgraceful person, loser.
This unfolding situation underscores the deep divisions and heated rhetoric that continue to characterize the current political landscape. As the resolution moves forward, it remains to be seen how the House will respond to this call for disciplinary action against one of its members.
The debate is sure to be a contentious one, reflecting the ongoing struggle between conservative and liberal viewpoints in the nation's capital.
