In a heartfelt tribute to the late Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, Vice President J.D. Vance shared his personal reflections and commitment to carry on Kirk's legacy while guest hosting Kirk's podcast.
"The Charlie Kirk Show." The VP's words painted a poignant picture of a man who was not only a conservative activist but also a devoted husband and father.
According to the Daily Caller, Vance recalled his first encounter with Kirk's widow, Erika, following the tragic assassination that took Kirk's life. He described how this meeting stirred in him a profound determination to strive for excellence in his roles as a husband and father, and to ensure the continuation of Kirk's movement for future generations.
"She said that she loved him so much. And I said, Erika, he loved you so much. He died way too young, but he died a happy man because of you, because of the home and the life that you guys had built together," Vance shared.
He went on to recount Erika's words about Kirk's gentle demeanor towards her, which left a lasting impression on him. "And she said to me that Charlie never raised his voice, that he never cussed at her, he was never cross or mean spirited to her," Vance said.
This revelation led him to reflect on his own behavior as a husband and father, inspiring him to strive for improvement.
Vance continued, "Because of all these moments that Ive shared, the books Ive read to my kids, going up to their bedroom and kissing them and hugging them before bed, I just realize that all of these moments that I get to have, Charlie is not able to have them anymore."
"And Charlies kids and his beautiful wife are not able to have them anymore and maybe the best way that I can contribute and the best way that I can honor my dear friend is to be the best husband that I can be. To be the kind of husband to my wife that he was to his."
Kirk and Erika were wed in May 2021 and were parents to two young children. In a poignant display of solidarity, Vance assisted in carrying Kirk's casket onto Air Force Two, bound for Arizona.
The footage captured the touching moment of second lady Usha Vance holding Erika's hand as they disembarked alongside Kirk's casket.
Vance emphasized the importance of continuing Kirk's movement, a sentiment echoed by Erika. "Its important, and Erika asked me this, to make sure that his movement, the movement that Charlie started has to keep going," Vance said. "We have to build upon it, we have to add to it. We have to make sure that the next generation of young people feels confident and courageous to speak their mind and to speak the truth."
Kirk, who established Turning Point USA in 2012, was a prominent figure on college campuses across the nation, engaging students in debates and encouraging them to be politically active and express their conservative views, even in hostile environments. He was a vocal supporter of conservative policies, President Donald Trump's agenda, and his Christian faith.
During a June 29 appearance on The Iced Coffee Hour podcast, Kirk expressed his desire to be remembered for his courage in his faith. "That would be the most important thing; most important thing is my faith," Kirk said.
The alleged assassin, Tyler Robinson, reportedly aligned with "leftist ideology" and had become increasingly political and hateful, according to authorities. FBI Director Kash Patel revealed that Robinson had allegedly texted an individual his intent to kill Kirk due to his "hatred" for Kirk's views.
As we remember Charlie Kirk, we are reminded of the importance of his mission and the need to continue his legacy of courage, faith, and conservative activism.
