A New York county commissioner blames "institutional misogyny for her resignation.
The Blaze News reports that Westchester County Board of Legislators Chair Catherine Borgia, a Democrat, was set to be voted out of her office when she resigned instead. She decided to take the resignation route approximately 30 minutes before lawmakers were set to vote her out of her office anyway. Therefore, many dont see the actions that she took as all that brave at all.
The Blaze News reports that there was pressure on Borgia to resign anyway.
According to Fox News, one of Borgias staffers allegedly attempted to meet a 14-year-old girl. Borgia had reportedly been informed of this in December 2022, but she failed to take any action related to this at all.
Borgia blamed institutional misogyny for the position she finds herself in, even though the board she sits on is 41% female. Borgia stated the following while speaking with the New York Post: I believe the events of the past 10 days have been politically motivated and based in institutional misogyny that is all too pervasive in the brutal, reactive, and mean-spirited political world in which we all now live.
She continued by saying: However, the past 10 days have also included overwhelming support, encouragement, love, and well wishes, some from surprising quarters. I cannot tell you how heartened I have been to receive it. Thank you to all of you, Borgia tried to keep her colleagues from voting her out by filing a lawsuit.
However, she ultimately decided to throw in the towel and resign from her seat instead of continuing to move forward. One could figure from this that she knew that her defeat was likely if she remained in her heart.
She says that it would have set a bad precedent to get voted out of her seat, so she decided to resign instead of getting voted out by her colleagues.
She said the following: Every Chair of this body will be seated knowing that if nine colleagues disagree with any of the myriad decisions that the position requires, he/she/they can also be removed at any time. ... I'm saddened that my colleagues chose to take the path that most endangers the work of the County.
The former staffer was fired on April 13, 2023, after a video was released by a group called OBL Global. That video allegedly showed the staffer attempting to meet up with a 14-year-old girl. However, Borgia reportedly was informed of this staffer's behavior in December 2022 and did nothing about it.
