Jimmy Kimmel, the late-night comedian, has recently revealed his acquisition of Italian citizenship, which he claims will be his escape route should the United States destabilize under President Donald Trump's leadership.
This revelation was made during an appearance on his ex-girlfriend Sarah Silverman's podcast, where he was questioned about his contingency plans in the event of a national crisis.
According to the Western Journal, Silverman initiated the conversation by stating, "A lot of people I know are thinking about where they can get citizenship." Kimmel responded, "I did get Italian citizenship. I do have that. And whats going on is, as bad as you thought it was gonna be, its so much worse. Its just unbelievable." He further added, "I feel like its probably even worse than [Trump] would like it to be."
Kimmel's comments seem to echo the sentiments of other celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres and Rosie ODonnell, who have chosen to leave the country in protest of Trump's administration. This trend among celebrities appears to be a desperate attempt to maintain relevance, with Kimmel's plan to flee to Europe seeming more like a safety net in case of career failure than a political statement.
This narrative is reminiscent of Stephen Colbert's departure from CBS, where he claimed his dismissal was a result of appeasing Trump. However, the reality was that poor ratings and financial losses led to his termination, debunking the notion of him being a political martyr. Kimmel, it seems, is treading a similar path.
During the podcast, Silverman admitted to searching terms like "Trump regrets" or "MAGA regrets," hoping that disillusionment with the president might unite people. Kimmel, on the other hand, suggested that liberals should welcome anyone who changes their stance on Trump. "If you want to admit you were wrong, thats so hard, and so rare to do, you are welcome," he said.
However, the arrogance displayed during the interview was palpable, with their obsession with Trump bordering on desperation. Both Silverman and Kimmel acknowledged the left's increasing elitism, with Kimmel noting that they are no longer enjoyable company.
He stated, "Its the loud voices that scare people from saying what they believe, and make you think twice about a joke. A lot of their points are valid, but a lot of them are also just repulsive."
These comments come in the wake of Trump's prediction that hosts like Kimmel and NBC's Jimmy Fallon are on the verge of being ousted. This is the consequence of alienating half of their audience by promoting political narratives. Kimmel, instead of fulfilling his role as a comedian, succumbed to tears following Trump's 2024 presidential victory and proceeded to list reasons why voting for him was a mistake.
This behavior encapsulates why Kimmel's career is under threat. The American public is growing weary of virtue signaling, political guilt, and the personal opinions of late-night hosts. The formula for late-night network comedy is outdated, and with a plethora of alternatives available, the public's patience is wearing thin. The termination of these hosts seems imminent, marking a shift in the entertainment landscape.
