The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is looking to hire armed agents.
This is according to reporting by Fox Business. They obtained this information by reviewing open job listings on the agencys website. It turns out the agency is interested in hiring these armed agents in all fifty states.
The law enforcement branch of the IRS is known as the Criminal Investigations unit and is working on hiring new agents who will carry firearms. This branch of the IRS goes after people for crimes such as money laundering, fraud, identity theft, and terrorist funding efforts.
Under the job posting, the IRS stated that special agents [c]arry a firearm; must be prepared to protect him/herself or others from physical attacks at any time and without warning and use firearms in life-threatening situations; must be willing to use force up to and including the use of deadly force.
On top of this, the agents must be willing and able to participate in arrests, execution of search warrants, and other dangerous assignments. They must also maintain a level of fitness necessary to effectively respond to life-threatening situations on the job.
Fox Business reports some other minimal requirements to get this job. For example, the agents must be at least 21 when they complete the training academy. They must also be at least 37 years old when appointed to the role.
Other requirements include that all applicants must be able to pass a drug screening and a test of their knowledge of the tax code. They also must be legally allowed to carry a firearm for this role.
This job posting from the IRS was opened on USAJobs in mid-February and will remain open until the end of the year. The posting states 360 job vacancies for this role across 249 locations nationwide. There is at least one location in every state that needs IRS agents.
